Blueberry Hill
Domino Fats Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I found my thrill
On Blueberry Hill
On Blueberry Hill
When I found you

The moon stood still
On Blueberry Hill
And lingered until
My dream came true

The wind in the willow played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows you made
Were never to be

Though we're apart
You're part of me still
For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill

The wind in the willow played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows you made
Were never to be

Though we're apart
You're part of me still

For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill

Overall Meaning

The song "Blueberry Hill" was originally written in 1940 by Vincent Rose, Larry Stock, and Al Lewis. However, it wasn't until Fats Domino's rendition in 1956 that the song became a massive hit, reaching number two on the Billboard pop charts and becoming a signature song for the musician.

The song's lyrics tell the story of a person finding their happiness, or "thrill," on Blueberry Hill when they fell in love with someone they met there. The idea of Blueberry Hill as a romantic destination gives the song an air of nostalgia - a longing for a simpler time and place.

The line "The moon stood still" is a metaphor for the wonder and excitement that the singer feels as they fall in love. The image of the moon not moving is meant to convey the idea that time seemed to stand still as they experienced this magical moment.

The second verse, "The wind in the willow played/Love's sweet melody/But all of those vows you made/Were never to be" and the repeating phrase "Though we're apart/You're part of me still" suggest that the relationship described in the song didn't last, but that the memories and emotions associated with it are still vivid and meaningful.

Overall, "Blueberry Hill" is a timeless classic that evokes feelings of nostalgia, sentimentality, and the joy of falling in love.

What a coincidence that I happened to be looking at this video & comment on an anniversary of Fats' death(!)--October 24, 2023--FWIW... At least he lived to a ripe old age! 🙂
