Don Ross (born November 19, 1960 in Montreal, Quebec to Scottish and Mi'kma… Read Full Bio ↴Don Ross (born November 19, 1960 in Montreal, Quebec to Scottish and Mi'kmaq parents) is a Canadian fingerstyle guitarist noted for the emotion and intensity of his playing as well as his use of extended technique.

Ross' music borrows from rock, jazz, folk and classical music creating a style that he describes as "heavy wood". Ross is the first and only person to twice win the U.S. National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship (1988 and 1996). His album Huron Street reached the top ten on the Billboard new age chart. In the liner notes to Ross' 2003 album Robot Monster, Bruce Cockburn writes, "Nobody does what Don Ross does with an acoustic guitar. He takes the corners so fast you think he's going to roll, but he never loses control."

After learning this song, I must say, if you plan on playing anything else afterwards, in another tuning, BE SURE TO HAVE EXTRA STRINGS! :D Been working on this and Afraid to Dance. -> 5. string changing from G in this tune to a B in Afraid to Dance will make your string pop like one out of two times :s LOVE TO PLAY YOUR MUSIC, BUT DAMN YOU MAKE ME BURST ALOT OF STRINGS! <3

I may have just heard one of the best sounds ever! At 3:00 he starts playing harmonics that sound so different from any I've heard before. They've got some sort of twang to them that is just amazing. Now if you'll excuse me, I must practise this.

the harmonics at like 3 13 and well 30 seconds around that are so bright. Don ross is so skilled, creates amazing music, full of energy, you know its skill when 1 man, 1 guitar can create the emotion that even a band couldnt.

@BenShTurner You are obviously right ! How can someone say that Don Ross messes with rythm! He is such a master of rythm and groove! I think this is precisely what makes him special besides the other candyrat guys! His playing is brilliant, and this particular part of the song gives it a great taste ! There is no such thing as a rythm mistake. Searching for flaws in such amazing art is just pointless...

Of course there are people who dislike the song! The world is full of mediocrity. The big-name japanese brands have actually been making some kickass amplified acoustics recently. Yamaha used to make relatively bad guitars, but they have really upped the quality in the last decade or so, without much price influx.

@SunburstGuitarsDan Nothing weird about it, it's a beautiful tuning. It's a low tuning, but it's SUCH a nice tuning. Just listen to the harmonics-part, wich is such a amazing part of the song, and only possible duo to the extreme nice tuning.
