Blood Medley
Donnie McClurkin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Down at the cross,
Where my savior died
Down where for cleansing
From sin I cried,
There to my heart
Was the blood applied

Singin
Glory to his name

I am so wondrously
Saved from my sin,
Jesus so sweetly
Abides within;
There at the cross
Where he took me in

Singin
Glory to his name

Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin,
I am so glad I have entered in;
There jesus saves me and keeps me clean;

Singin
Glory to his name

Glory to his name
Precious name
Glory to his name
There to my heart was the blood applied
Glory to his name

Come to this so rich and sweet,
Cast thy poor soul at thy savior's feet;
If you plunge in today,
You'll be made complete;

Singin
Glory to his name

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Donnie McClurkin's song "Blood Medley" revolve around the Christian notion of the blood of Jesus Christ being a powerful force that has the ability to cleanse followers of their sins. The song is based on the biblical passage of Revelation 7:14, which describes a great multitude who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb of God.

The song begins with a reference to the place where Jesus Christ was crucified, known as "the cross". This is a significant location in the Christian faith because it represents the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for his followers. The lyrics go on to describe how the blood of Jesus was applied to the singer's heart, resulting in a cleansing from their sin. The repetition of the phrase "Glory to his name" serves to emphasize the importance of Jesus' sacrifice and its transformative power.

The second verse speaks of the singer's personal experience of salvation and how Jesus has taken up residence within them. The third verse emphasizes the idea that the blood of Jesus is a "precious fountain" that is able to save followers from sin and keep them clean. The song concludes with an invitation for others to come to Jesus and experience the same salvation that the singer has.

Alas! and did my saviour bleed,
And did my sovreign die.
Would he devote that sacred head,
For such a worm as I?
Was it the crimes that I had done he hung upon a tree
What amazing pity, grace unknown
And love beyond degree
Drops of grief can not repay
The depth of love I owe
Dear Lord I give myself to Thee
It's all that I can do
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day
Down at the cross where my Savior died
Down where the cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my heart was the blood applied.
Glory to His name
I am so wondrously saved from sin,
Jesus so sweetly abides within
There at the cross where He took me in
Glory to His name
Oh precious fountain that saves from sin,
I am so glad that I entered in
It was there Jesus saved me and keeps me clean
Glory to His name
Come to this fountain so rich and sweet,
Cast thy poor soul at the Savior's feet.
If you plunge in today you'll be made complete.
Glory to His name.
Glory to His name, precious name
Glory to His name;
There to my heart was the blood applied
Glory to His name!

I met him yesterday! I shook his hand and wanted to cry. I've been following him since I was little. I remember begging my parents for his new cd for my birthday, that's all I wanted.

This man, the anointing. I'm so blessed to have been able to know this example of great faith and Spiritual work.
Thanks Donnie for all you've done and letting the Lord use you in such a special way.
