Deathbringer
DoomSword Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Woman i never saw
It was hard to me
To march upon these snowcovered plains.
Woman i never saw
It was difficult to me
To wait before the fire the battle to come.
Woman i never saw
You don't know what i felt
When i froze my skin under this mail coat.
Woman i never saw
I was frightened yesterday
They were few in number, but the look in their eyes...

Of this land
Of glory battle and death
All i recall, is the look in the eyes of the dead.

Blood on my hands!

Woman i never saw
No ship will return,
None will ever warm your winter nights.
Woman i never saw

I am sorry if you can believe me,
I killed your man in my last fight.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of DoomSword's song "Deathbringer" are written from the perspective of a remorseful warrior who has been forced to leave his homeland and go to war, leaving behind a woman he never got a chance to know. The warrior is haunted by the memory of her and his thoughts drift back to her as he fights in the war. He remembers how difficult it was for him to march on the snow-covered plains, waiting for the battle to come and how he felt frozen in his mail coat. He also remembers how frightened he was when he saw the enemy's eyes, despite their small number.

The warrior is fully aware that the chances of his return are slim and he apologizes to the woman for the loss of her man in his last fight. He tells her that no ship will ever return to their land, leaving her to suffer and mourn alone. The only thing that he has taken away from the land of his birth is the memory of the look in the eyes of the dead. This lyric paints a melancholic picture of the warrior's shattered life, a life that has been consumed by war and guilt, leaving no room for love or relationships.
