But to me was a thrill supreme
Just a kiss in the dark, but it kindled the spark
The awaking of love's young dream
Oh that kiss in the dark was, to him, just a lark
But to me was a thrill supreme
Just a kiss in the dark, but it kindled the spark
The awaking of love's young dream
The lyrics to Dorinda Clark-Cole's song "In The Dark" portray a bittersweet experience of a kiss that holds different meanings for the two individuals involved. The singer describes a moment where a kiss in the dark might have been insignificant to the person who initiated it, treating it as a casual game or flippant act. However, for the singer, this kiss holds immense significance and becomes a source of exhilaration and ecstasy. It represents the ignition of a dormant love, awakening the dreams and desires of a young heart.
The repetition of the line "Oh that kiss in the dark was, to him, just a lark" emphasizes the contrast between the singer's profound emotional response and the other person's nonchalance. The singer, while acknowledging the discrepancy in their perceptions, still recognizes the power and impact of that fleeting kiss. It becomes a catalyst for the singer to experience an overwhelming sense of love and passion.
