Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Blue Bird On Your Windowsill
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's a bluebird
(There's a rainbow)
There's a bluebird on your windowsill
There's a rainbow in your sky
Near enough to make you cry
(There's a bluebird)
There he is.
(There's a rainbow)
And with every tear you've washed away
All the things you've kept inside
You count your joys this lovely day
And you wonder why you cried
There's a bluebird on your windowsill
There's a rainbow in your sky
There are happy thoughts, your heart to fill
Near enough to make you cry
(There's a bluebird)
Look at him out there, ain't he pretty
(There's a rainbow)
And if perchance your heart grow sad
You still can smile again
And with every tear you've ever had
Comes the sunshine after rain
There's a bluebird
(Yes, yes)
There's a rainbow
(Hear, hear.)
[Orchestral Break]
The rainy days may come and go
But the clouds soon roll away
Everything will come that you wish it so
As an answer when you pray.
There's a bluebird on your windowsill
There's a rainbow in your sky
There're happy thoughts, your heart to fill
Near enough to make you cry
(There's a bluebird)
Cutest feathers.
(There's a rainbow)
Lovely weather.
(There's a bluebird)
Look at that bluebird and the rainbow in the sky.
The song "Blue Bird On Your Windowsill" by Doris Day is an uplifting and optimistic song that uses the imagery of a bluebird on a windowsill and a rainbow in the sky to represent joy and happiness. The lyrics suggest that even in times of sadness or difficulty, there is always something to be grateful for and that joy can be found in the smallest things.
The repeated refrain of "There's a bluebird / There's a rainbow" serves as a reminder that beauty and joy are all around us, even when we may not see or feel them. The lyrics also touch on the idea of releasing pent-up emotions and finding freedom and happiness in the process. By washing away tears and counting joys, the song suggests that acknowledging and expressing our emotions can lead to a more positive outlook.
Overall, "Blue Bird On Your Windowsill" is a song that encourages listeners to find joy in the present moment, even amidst difficult circumstances. It reminds us that happiness is not something we have to wait for or earn, but rather something that is always within reach if we choose to see it.

There's a great quote from Doris - " I want to smile and I want to make people laugh. And that's all I want. I like it. I like being happy. I want to make others happy." -- I think she did just that !!
