Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Bright and Shiny
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Gleam and glitter in my eyes
Bright and shiny, bright and shiny
Bright and shiny is our love
And when I kiss you, I'm aglow
And I sparkle, head to toe
Bright and shiny, bright and shiny
Love like ours is bright and gleamy
As a sunbeam dancing in the skies
When you hold me tight
The night's as bright as five hundred Fourth of July's
Since you told me, you'd be mine
Sparks are flyin' all the time
Bright and shiny, bright and shiny
Bright and shiny is our love
Lightning flashes, shooting stars
Can't outshine this love of ours
Bright and shiny, bright and shiny
Bright and shiny is our love
Gayer than a carousel
Happy as a wedding bell
Bright and shiny, bright and shiny
Bright and shiny is our love
Love like ours is bright and gleamy
As a sunbeam dancing in the skies
When you hold me tight
The night's as bright as five hundred Fourth of July's
Since you told me, you'd be mine
Sparks are flyin' all the time
Bright and shiny, bright and shiny
Is my love for you
The song "Bright and Shiny" by Doris Day is a joyful celebration of the happy, giddy feeling of being deeply in love. The lyrics are full of colorful imagery, painting a picture of two people who are so in love that their very touch ignites a flurry of fireflies and sparks. The chorus repeats the refrain "bright and shiny is our love," emphasizing the idea that their relationship is absolutely radiant and joyful.
The first stanza describes the physical effect that being near one another has on the couple - the fireflies that gleam and glitter in the singer's eyes are a visual representation of the magical, almost otherworldly quality of their connection. When they kiss, the feeling of warmth and joy spreads throughout their whole beings, causing them to sparkle from head to toe.
The second stanza delves deeper into the emotional aspect of their love, describing it as bright and gleamy as a sunbeam dancing in the skies. The night becomes as bright as five hundred Fourth of July's when they embrace each other. The sparks between them seem to never stop flying, illustrating the idea that there is a constant excitement and passion in their relationship.
Overall, "Bright and Shiny" is a song about the transformative power of love and the way that it can make everything in life seem magical and bright.
