Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Dominó
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Domino, Domino, you're a devil designed to torment me,
When your heart must know that I love you so,
Tell me why, tell me why, why do you make me cry, Domino,
Domino, Domino, won't you tell me you'll never desert me?
Domino, Domino, if you stay I don't care how you hurt me,
Fate has made you so, you can't change, I know,
Just one look in your eyes and I melt with desire,
Just a touch of your hands and I burst into fire,
And my whole world fills with music when I'm lost in your embrace,
But I know that you're fickle and I'm not misled,
Each attractive new face that you see turns your head,
And it scares me that tomorrow, someone else may take my place,
Domino, Domino, you're an angel that heaven has sent me,
Domino, Domino, you're a devil designed to torment me,
When your heart must know that I love you so,
Tell me why, tell me why, why do you make me cry, Domino,
Domino, Domino, I'll forgive anything that you do,
Domino, Domino, nothing matters if I have you.
The song Domino by Doris Day is a classic tale of a love that is both heavenly and hellish. The singer is torn between her intense love for Domino, whom she calls both an angel and a devil, and the pain he causes her when he inevitably leaves her for someone new. She is madly in love with him and is willing to forgive anything he does, but she is also frightened that one day he will leave her for good. She sings about his fickle nature and how she is not sure if she will always be the one by his side.
The lyrics evoke a sense of passion and desperation as the singer struggles to come to terms with the love she has for Domino. The chorus of the song, in particular, is both haunting and catchy at the same time, with the repetition of the name "Domino" punctuating the singer's pain and confusion. She knows that he is a complicated man, but she cannot help but be drawn to him, even if it means enduring heartache.
Overall, Domino is a powerful and emotionally charged song that captures the essence of a love that is equal parts joy and anguish.
Line by Line Meaning
Domino, Domino, you're an angel that heaven has sent me,
You are my savior, my heavenly creation who is here to rescue me.
Domino, Domino, you're a devil designed to torment me,
You are also my downfall, deliberately placed here to cause distress and pain in me.
When your heart must know that I love you so,
I am blatant about how much I love you and your heart should feel the same about me.
Tell me why, tell me why, why do you make me cry, Domino,
Why do you cause me so much pain and tear my heart apart, even though you know how much I love you?
Domino, Domino, won't you tell me you'll never desert me?
Can you promise me that you'll never abandon or desert me, no matter what?
Domino, Domino, if you stay I don't care how you hurt me,
I am willing to let you hurt me if it means you'll stay with me.
Fate has made you so, you can't change, I know,
You can't help the way you are and the way you behave, it's written in your destiny.
You can't change, though you try, but then neither can I, Domino,
Neither of us can change the way we are, no matter how hard we try.
Just one look in your eyes and I melt with desire,
Your gaze is enough to make me feel intensely passionate and enamored with you.
Just a touch of your hands and I burst into fire,
A simple touch from you is enough to ignite a flame within me, sparking intense feelings of love and passion.
And my whole world fills with music when I'm lost in your embrace,
When I am in your arms, everything feels perfect and magical, like music filling up my entire world.
But I know that you're fickle and I'm not misled,
I am aware of your fickleness and am not deluded about the reality of our relationship.
Each attractive new face that you see turns your head,
You can't help but fall for the charms of anyone who catches your eye, regardless of me and my feelings.
And it scares me that tomorrow, someone else may take my place,
The thought of being replaced by someone else tomorrow frightens me and terrifies me to my core.
Domino, Domino, I'll forgive anything that you do,
I am willing to forgive all your sins and transgressions, just to have you by my side.
Domino, Domino, nothing matters if I have you.
My love and devotion to you is paramount and nothing else matters if I have you in my life.

To be honest, I prefer the original song in French, especially sung by Patachou. Nonetheless, Doris Day's impeccable voice makes this an immensely enjoyable rendition, and the lyrics are exquisite Thank you for sharing.
