I'll See You in My Dream
Doris Day Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tho' the days are long,
Twilight sings a song,
Of the happiness that used to be;
Soon my eyes will close,
Soon I'll find repose,
And in dreams you're always near to me.

[Chorus]
I'll See You In My Dreams
Hold you in my dreams,
Someone took you out of my arms,
Still I feel the thrill of your charms,
Lips that once were mine,
Tender eyes that shine,

They will light my way tonight,
I'll See You In My Dreams.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I'll See You In My Dreams" by Doris Day, Norman Luboff, and The Norman Luboff Choir describe the sentimentality of someone who is reminiscing about the past, imagining their lost love in their dreams. The song starts with the singer remarking on how long the days are, but as night falls, she finds solace in the twilight and the memories of the happiness she once shared with her lover. The lyrics highlight the idea that even though her lover may have been taken away from her, the memories and the emotions that they shared continue to thrive and live on in the singer's dreams.

The chorus further emphasizes the theme that love never fades away and can continue to manifest in one's dreams. The singer expresses the desire to hold her lover in her dreams and how the memories of their time together still bring her joy. The lyrics also reminisce on the physicality of the lover - how their once shared lips and tender shining eyes will light up the singer's way through the night. The song expresses longing, comfort and reassurance that even though the singer has lost her lover, their memory will live on in her dreams and she will always cherish the love they shared.

Great Multi-talented Lady....God bless her for all she gave to music from 'Sentimental Journey' with Les Brown orchestra that shot her to fame with her unique lyrical style to the many movies she did into the sixties with James Stewart and many others..RIP...

A wonderful movie! Doris could act with anyone. Not that Danny was an awful actor, they were just not an obvious couple. The fictionalized biography of Gus Kahn and his wife, Grace, is well worth watching for the songs and the acting.

Yes, Danny was not much of an actor on screen but he was perfect for sitcom TV. Doris blew everybody else off the screen - she couldn’t help it. 👍👍❤️
