Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

I Feel Like a Feather in the Breeze
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ridin' on high, high in the sky
But, what am I gay about
What is it makes me being so
What does my heart hurray about
Why do I feel this way
What is it makes it seem so
If you must know the answer
It's you, you, you
I feel like a feather in the breeze
Ridin' on high, high in the sky
Honey, and I'm walkin' on air
Since the moment that you told
Me that you care
Feel like a feather in the breeze
Floatin' through space in your embrace
Dancing on clouds way up above
Since the second that you beckoned to my love
I'm happy, so happy when you're near
My troubles just disappear
As soon as you're by my side i'm satisfied
I feel like a feather in the breeze
Havin' my fun, kissin' the sun
And it's because you are the one
So I'm singin' like the birdies in the trees
And feelin' like the feather
Laughing at the weather
Feelin' like the feather in the breeze
The lyrics to "I Feel Like a Feather in The Breeze" by Doris Day capture the overwhelming joy and lightness that love can bring to a person's life. The singer compares themselves to a feather floating freely in the breeze, riding high in the sky. They express a sense of gayness, not in the modern sense of the word but in the old-fashioned meaning of feeling happy and carefree.
The lyrics express curiosity about what exactly it is that makes them feel this way, questioning what it is about their love that fills their heart with excitement. The world around them seems like heaven, and they attribute this feeling to the person they are singing to, declaring "It's you, you, you."
Throughout the song, the singer relishes in the blissful state their love has brought them. They feel like they are walking on air, floating through space in their lover's embrace, and dancing on clouds high above. They find pure happiness and satisfaction in their loved one's proximity, and all their troubles and worries disappear when they are together. The song is an ode to the transformative power of love and the immeasurable joy it can bring.
