Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968โ1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

I May Be Wrong But I Think You
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I may be wrong but I think you're swell
I like your style say, I think it's marvellous
I'm always wrong so how can I tell
Deuces to me are all aces
Life is to me just a bore
Faces are all open spaces
You might be John Barrymore
I think you're grand but I may be wrong
I may be wrong but I think you're wonderful
I may be wrong but I think you're swell
I like your style say, I really think it's marvellous
I'm always wrong so how can I tell
Deuces to me are all aces
Life is to me just a bore
Faces are all open spaces
You might be John Barrymore
You came along say I think you're wonderful
I think you're grand but I may be wrong
You said that Edison would never make that light
You laughed at Mr. Franklin with his key and kite
The point of the song is I'm always wrong
But with you baby I'm oh so right.
The lyrics to "I May Be Wrong" are a sweet and charming expression of admiration and affection. The singer acknowledges that they are often mistaken and may not have the best judgement. However, in this case, they are confident in their belief that the person they are addressing is wonderful, swell, and marvellous. The comparisons they make to deuces being aces and faces being open spaces convey their tendency to see things in a different light than most people. They also suggest that the person they are singing to is special enough to make them question their own perception of reality.
The singer goes on to reference historical figures like John Barrymore, Thomas Edison, and Benjamin Franklin, highlighting their own lack of knowledge or skepticism about these great men and their inventions. This further emphasizes their admission of fallibility and adds to the endearing nature of the song. The final lines of the song, "The point of the song is I'm always wrong, but with you baby I'm oh so right," sum up the sentiment perfectly. Despite their usual lack of accuracy, the singer is certain of their admiration for this person and feels justified in expressing it.

1 of my favourite uptempo early songs of doris. So jazzy and fun. In the interlude i do a jitterbug. I sang this last october on halloween in a hospital for old folk where my auntie Linda works. I was the entertainment. I sang mostly doris songs, a couple of jane russell and marilyn monroe songs also. I also danced the charleston and mambo. I really really love this one !!!
