Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

If I Could Be With You
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All day through, I seem to say to you,
I did wrong when I let you go away,
'Cause now I dream about you night and day,
I'm so unhappy and dissatisfied
I'll be happy if I had you by my side,
If I could be with you one li'l hour tonight,
I want you to know you wouldn't go,
Until I told you that I loved you so.
If I could be with you I'd love you long,
If I could be with you I'd love you strong,
And I'm telling you for true, you'd be anything but blue,
If I could be with you
The lyrics to Doris Day's song "If I Could Be With You" express the singer's deep longing for a past lover. She admits that she made a mistake by letting the person go and now spends every hour of every day dreaming and thinking about them. She claims to be so unhappy and dissatisfied with her life without this person that just an hour spent with them would make her happy again.
The chorus of the song expresses the singer's desire to be with the person for even a short time, to be free to do all the little things they might have done together in the past. She wants the person to know that she loves them and won't let them go until she tells them so. If she could be with them again, she would love them long and strong, and promises that they would be anything but blue if she were.
Overall, the song is a heartfelt expression of regret and longing for a past love. The simple melody and lyrics capture the bittersweet feeling of wanting something you can't have, while the upbeat tempo gives the song a sense of hope that things might still work out.

A truly nostalgic video, taking us back to a time of innocence. Of course it was before my time, but somehow i can still relate to the velvet tones of Doris.
