Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

The Glass Bottom Boat
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On the glass bottom boat
It's the greatest show that was ever afloat
Take a ride on the tide with the guide and see
The way out wonders of the deep blue sea
The deep blue sea, the deep blue sea
There's a lot to see, in the deep blue sea
Cockles & mussels alive-alive-o
The hermit crab, he lives alone
You can't even get him on the telephone
The halibut's eyes turn up and in
He don't know where he's going, but he knows where he's been
The deep blue sea, the deep blue sea
There's a lot to see in the deep blue sea
The glass bottom boat, you will agree
Can show you the magic of the deep blue sea
Spiney crabs and white fish too
Will all be there, what a hullabaloo
With so many fish upon the sea
There's hardly room for a fat sardine
The deep blue sea, the deap blue sea
There's a lot goin' on in the deep blue sea
Oh life on the glass bottom boat is great
(I'm the captain) You could use a mate
Now the turtle is slow, but not so dumb
He has his own condominium
A bluebird oyster was caught with "foyle"
He "swoyre" he didn't even know the "goyle"
The deep blue sea, the deep blue sea
There's a lot to see in the deep blue sea
The glass bottom boat, you will agree
Can show you the magic of the deep blue sea
The flyin' fish was an awful ham
Made a three-point landing in a fryin' pan
The porpoise has the most hutzpah
But the whales are ones with the built-in showers
Starfish, starfish, two-pence all
Abelone in the casserole
Winding, binding, joining up
Is growing, growing, growing up
Ahhh...
All aboard, all aboard
On the glass bottom boat
It's the greatest show that was ever afloat
Take a ride on the tide with the guide and see
The way out wonders of the deep blue sea
All aboard, all aboard
On the glass bottom boat
It's the greatest show that was ever afloat
Take a ride on the tide with the guide and see
The way out wonders of the deep blue sea
The lyrics of Doris Day's song, "Glass Bottom Boat," describe the wonders of the deep blue sea that one can see on the glass bottom boat. It is portrayed as the greatest show on earth that was ever afloat. The song takes the listener on a journey to explore the undersea world with its diverse range of creatures. It mentions sailfish, blowfish, halibut, spiney crabs, white fish, sardines, turtles, oysters, and more, with a touch of humor added to it.
In the first verse, the song calls for all to come aboard the glass bottom boat to see the magical, amazing show of the deep blue sea. The second verse mentions the abundance of marine life that is waiting beneath the waves. The hermit crab is portrayed as a recluse that is not reachable even through the phone. The halibut's eyes, that turn up and in, give a sense of the confusion it faces while swimming through the sea.
The chorus is repeated several times, emphasizing the abundance of marine life that is waiting in the deep blue sea. The song highlights different sea creatures and their quirky habits with a touch of humor. For example, the turtle has a slow but wise approach to life, and it owns a condominium. Similarly, the porpoise is described as a creature that has a lot of hutzpah in it, yet the whales are the ones who have built-in showers.
The song ends by inviting everyone to take the ride on the glass bottom boat and witness the incredible beauty of the deep blue sea. Overall, the lyrics of this song take us on a journey through the undersea world, painting a vivid image of the marine creatures with a humorous sense.

This almost looks like they were ad libbing but the director kept shooting. One of my favorite Doris Day movies.
@lukepearson5639
I love that they left that little mess-up in the movie at 1:00. This whole scene is just so real and wholesome.
@bobbg9041
Was it a mess up? Or just showing true to life?
@21_f_aus
@bobbg does seem like it was a mess up, and kept it in to be true to life 🤣😂
