Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

The Lords Prayer
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
(As we forgive those who trespass against us.)
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
(And ever.)
Amen.
In these lyrics, Doris Day's rendition of "The Lord's Prayer" showcases a profound expression of faith and devotion to God. The song begins with the acknowledgment of God as the Father in heaven, establishing a deep spiritual connection between the singer and the divine. By addressing "Our Father," it invites a sense of communal worship, emphasizing the collective nature of the human relationship with the divine.
The opening lines proceed to exalt and revere God's name, highlighting the sanctity and holiness of God. The phrase "Hallowed be thy Name" signifies a form of worship and reverence, expressing the singer's awe and respect for God's omnipotent presence and authority. This declaration sets the tone for the rest of the prayer, establishing a sense of awe and reverence towards the divine being.
The subsequent lines of the prayer invoke a sense of humility and submission to God's will, asking for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. This reflects a desire for alignment with God's divine plan and a willingness to surrender to His greater purpose. The plea for daily sustenance in the form of "our daily bread" speaks to the singer's reliance on God for their basic needs, emphasizing the importance of divine provision and sustenance in the singer's life.
The prayer also includes a plea for forgiveness and a commitment to extend forgiveness to others, mirroring the concept of grace and reconciliation central to Christian beliefs. By asking for forgiveness of debts and offering forgiveness to debtors or trespassers, the singer demonstrates a willingness to let go of grudges and resentments, fostering a spirit of compassion and reconciliation. The concluding lines of the prayer reiterate the singer's reliance on God for protection from temptation and evil, affirming His eternal kingdom, power, and glory. The song culminates in the powerful declaration of Amen, signifying a firm affirmation of faith and trust in God's divine providence and protection.

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Our creator who is in the divine realm above us,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Blessed and revered is your name.
Thy kingdom come.
May your divine rule and presence manifest.
Thy will be done in earth,
May your intentions be carried out on earth,
As it is in heaven.
Just as it is in the heavenly realm above us.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Provide us with sustenance for each day.
And forgive us our debts,
Grant us forgiveness for our wrongdoings,
As we forgive our debtors.
In the same way we forgive those who owe us.
(As we forgive those who trespass against us.)
(As we forgive those who wrong us.)
And lead us not into temptation;
Guide us away from situations that may lead us astray;
But deliver us from evil:
Protect us from harmful influences and actions:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
For you possess the reign, authority, and magnificence eternally.
(And ever.)
(And forever.)
Amen.
So be it.
