Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Ain't we got fun
Not much money, oh, but honey
Ain't we got fun
The rent's unpaid dear
And we haven't a bus
But smiles were made dear
For people like us
In the Winter in the Summer
Don't we have fun
Times are bum and getting bummer
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get poorer
In the meantime, in between time
Ain't we got fun
Every morning, every evening
Ain't we got fun
Not much money, oh, but honey
Ain't we got fun
The rent's unpaid dear
And we haven't a bus
But smiles were made dear
For people like us
In the Winter in the Summer
Don't we have fun
Times are bum and getting bummer
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get poorer
In the meantime, in between time
Ain't we got fun
Every Summer, every Winter
Don't we have fun
Twins and cares dear come in pairs dear
Still we have fun
When I first saw you
I had but one thought
And then you chased me
Until you were caught
From the day I whispered
May I please hold your hand
You progressed and I'm impressed
And I think you're grand
I'm not too clever
But I'd like to say those words forever
Thank you kind sir I won't mind sir
Ain't we got fun
The lyrics of "Ain't We Got Fun" by Doris Day depict a couple who are content despite their financial struggles. They don't have much money, their rent is unpaid, and they don't even have a bus, but they still find joy in their lives. They are portrayed as people who are able to smile and enjoy life, even when things are tough. This is reinforced by the repetition of the phrase "ain't we got fun" throughout the song.
The couple is not bitter about their situation and they even poke fun at it. They comment that the rich get richer while the poor get poorer, but they still find their own way to have fun. They are happy just to be together and in love. They have a positive outlook on life and refuse to let their financial struggles get them down.
Overall, the lyrics of "Ain't We Got Fun" are a reminder to focus on the good things in life, even when things seem bleak. The couple in the song shows that it is possible to find joy in the midst of hardship.

What an absolutely beautiful rendition of this song. I did not think this song could be any more meaningful and heartfelt than it already was but she added layers to it. And her beauty just shone through with every word. What a class act!

She puts a lot of emotion into whatever she chooses to sing. She is and will be sorely missed. Some people strike a chord with us. A positive chord and that’s what Doris did for me. She will influence and mentor me As long as I live.
Nandkumar Rajguru
I second... it's the best version of this song ever sung....
R Harvey
Yes. I'm finding I like this version better than Barbra's.
Barbra was probably in her late 20s early early 30s when this was a hit for her in about 1973 or so.
Doris is probably around 50 or mid-50s with much more life experience singing this.
natalee fonsec
A true artist. When people truly sang and not the barking we hear nowadays.

@Surf Rescue the ‘music’ of today and the performers are obscene! Vulgar.
Surf Rescue
Correct...imagine Beyonce or Cardi B singing like this. I am blushing for them.
terri beauchamp
So true. Doris had the most beautiful singing voice. I'd know her voice over anyone elses.
Mehrdad Mohamadi
I agree about barking😄😄
Glennsten Bergkvist
Don't forget the wounded banshee sound of today, too!
