Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Whatever Will BeWill Be
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty
Will I be rich
Here's what she said to me
Que será, será
Whatever will be, will be
Que será, será
What will be, will be
When I grew up and fell in love
I asked my sweetheart, what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows
Day after day
Here's what my sweetheart said
Que será, será
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que será, será
What will be, will be
Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother, what will I be
Will I be handsome
Will I be rich
I tell them tenderly
Que será, será
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que será, será
What will be, will be
Que será, será
Doris Day's song "Whatever Will Be, Will Be" is a timeless classic that has resonated with listeners for generations. The song speaks to the human desire for control over the future, and the comforting notion that sometimes, no matter what we do, things will turn out the way they are meant to.
The song begins with a young girl asking her mother what her future will hold. She asks if she will be pretty or rich, and her mother responds with the famous phrase, "Que sera, sera," meaning "whatever will be, will be." The song then transitions to the girl as an adult in love, questioning what lies ahead with her sweetheart. The answer once again is that the future is not ours to see, and that what will be, will be.
As the song draws to a close, the scene shifts to the present day, where the girl has children of her own. They ask her the same questions she once asked her mother, and she responds with the same phrase. The song concludes with the chorus, repeating the sentiment that we cannot control what will happen in our lives, and that we should embrace whatever comes.
