Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Wonderful One
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I may be wrong but I think you're swell
I like your style say, I think it's marvellous
I'm always wrong so how can I tell
Deuces to me are all aces
Life is to me just a bore
Faces are all open spaces
You might be John Barrymore
I think you're grand but I may be wrong
I may be wrong but I think you're wonderful
I may be wrong but I think you're swell
I like your style say, I really think it's marvellous
I'm always wrong so how can I tell
Deuces to me are all aces
Life is to me just a bore
Faces are all open spaces
You might be John Barrymore
You came along say I think you're wonderful
I think you're grand but I may be wrong
You said that Edison would never make that light
You laughed at Mr. Franklin with his key and kite
The point of the song is I'm always wrong
But with you baby I'm oh so right.
The lyrics to Doris Day's song "I May Be Wrong" express a sense of confusion and uncertainty mixed with admiration for someone who could be perceived as extraordinary. The repetition of "I may be wrong" throughout the song emphasizes the singer's self-doubt and lack of confidence. The lines "Deuces to me are all aces/Life is to me just a bore/Faces are all open spaces" suggest a lack of enthusiasm for life's experiences and an inability to see the good in things. However, the singer sees something special in the person they are addressing, as shown in the lines "You might be John Barrymore/You came along say I think you're wonderful/I think you're grand but I may be wrong."
The last verse of the song brings a twist to its meaning. The reference to Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin highlights the irony of the singer always being wrong, as they are talking about geniuses who were initially mocked for their ideas. This leads to the conclusion that, despite their self-doubt, the singer is confident that they are right about their feelings for the person they are addressing.
Overall, the lyrics to "I May Be Wrong" express ambiguity, uncertainty, and admiration all at once, making for a complex and intriguing sentiment.

Calling, calling dear
Loved one can't you hear
Each troubling part of my faithful heart
Come to me make all my sighs disappear
Sweetheart you must know
That I love you so
Awake or sleeping
My hearts's in your keeping
And calling to you soft and low
My wonderful one
Whenever I'm dreaming
Love's lovelight a-gleaming I see
My wonderful one
How my arms ache to hold, dear
To cuddle and fold you to me
Just you, only you
In the shadowy twilight
In silvery moonlight
There's none like you, I adore you
My life I'll live for you,
Oh, my wonderful, wonderful one
