Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

You'll Never Walk Alone
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Keep your chin up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Be tossed and blown
Walk on
Walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams
Be tossed and blown
Walk on
Walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Doris Day's song "You'll Never Walk Alone" is a powerful and uplifting ballad about finding hope in even the darkest of times. The lyrics encourage listeners to persevere through difficult times, to keep their head up high, and to face their fears with courage. The song begins with the phrase "When you walk through a storm," which is a metaphorical reference to the challenges and trials that we all face in life. Despite the storm, the lyrics advise listeners to "keep your chin up high" and "don't be afraid of the dark," a powerful message about the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity.
The second stanza continues the theme of perseverance, with the lyrics advising listeners to "walk on through the wind" and "walk on through the rain." The metaphorical language of the song speaks to the universal human experience, reminding us that all of us face challenges and hardships in our lives. However, the lyrics of "You'll Never Walk Alone" offer a message of hope and resilience, reminding listeners that even when our dreams are "tossed and blown," we should keep walking with hope in our hearts.
Ultimately, the song concludes with the powerful message that "you'll never walk alone." This phrase conveys the idea that even in the darkest moments, we are not alone in our struggles. By persevering with hope in our hearts, we can find the strength to overcome our challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.

Caminhe! Caminhe!
Com esperança em seu coração
E você nunca caminhará sozinha
Você nunca caminhará sozinha
