Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

You do something
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Something that simply mystifies me
Tell me, why should it be
You have the power to hypnotize me
Let me live 'neath your spell
You do that voodoo that you do so well
That nobody else could do.
Let me live 'neath your spell
You do that voodoo that you do so well
For you do something to me
That nobody else could do
That nobody else could do
Doris Day's song "You do something to me" is a romantic tune that describes the captivating feeling one can feel when they are drawn to an individual in a mystical way. The lyrics express confusion as to why this person has such a hypnotic power over the singer. The use of the word "voodoo" in the chorus suggests that the attraction is somewhat supernatural and cannot be explained. The singer makes a plea to stay under the spell of this person and describes how they have an ability to do something special that nobody else can replicate.
The overall lyrics convey the sensation of being spellbound by someone and the inexplicable attraction that is felt. The melody's smooth and luring tune contributes to the hypnotizing feeling that the lyrics describe.

Wonderful!!! as always. She's perfect...
I'm a crooner singer and it's so sade to see that there is not much singers from today who can dance, sing and act like many singers from the 50s... Dame Doris day was the best and so humble with the success.. Hoping she's still well
Anyway, we're not much in my generation
Thanks for sharing

Tell me, why should it be
You have the power to hypnotize me?
Let me live 'neath your spell
Do do that voodoo that you do so well
Cause you do something to me
That nobody else could do
You do something to me
Something that simply mystifies me
Tell me, why should it be
You got the power to hypnotize me?
Let me live 'neath your spell
Do do that voodoo that you do so well
Cause you do something to me

That no one else in the world can do

Her voice always melted me. She moved and danced well as well. She could do musicals, comedies and drama. Nobody sang like her in the sense that when you heard her you knew it was her.
