I feel like having smart doors strays somewhat from the "Dwarf-Fortress" inspiration. I hope that at some point in the future DF implements cheaper, dumber doors, so that people who think they are really clever and thrifty can accidentally vent their entire station into space.

great game guys. saw some initial videos on it, and decided to give it a go (i really like games like this). Sure enough, i ended up playing several hours of it and even in it's early state, i find it extremely enjoyable. Looking forward to following the development of this game! Keep up the good work!

Even though I usually wouldn't play this kind of game, this video made me realise how important a nice looking and clear GUI and overall presentation would get me to play any kind of game. I'm sold, thanks for making the video :)

looks awesome, dwarf fortress inspired in space it seems. 25 bucks seems steep for an alpha, but we shall see how well it sells, excited about it either way.

I know right!? You would expect a game so early in development such as this one to be bad and all, but it's actually really fun already. So I honestly can't wait for all the content they are planning to add. Seems like this is really shaping up to be an awesome game.

Having played, failed, at this game several times now, I was eager to see what insights this video had for me. Unfortunately, every time you touched on something that isn't explain in the game, you would get side-tracked and talk about something else. For instance, why is having a bad technician bad? Does it take them longer to repair? or do they do a poor repair job? Also, what about food? Currently my biggest problem with this game is how easily you can loose. Everything is so fragile. All you need is to have your oxygen levels drop to around 30% and you loose because everyone starts "running for cover" instead of taking the actions you give them to amend the situation. I want to love this game, and I know it's still in alpha, but I've lost so many times due to very stupid things like this that it makes it really hard to come back to it. Also, for an alpha I was expecting more frequent updating, at least saying, "yes, we are actually working on this. You didn't spend $25 for a game that would never be completed." Again, I'm sorry, but if you're going to release a game in alpha stages, and make people pay full price for it, there are greater expectations of you.

2 gameplay questions: Is there a chance for a virus breakout where you have to put quarantine and protect species (You know zombie like stuff) ? A scenario where a part of the space station gets destroyed by meteor (physics) ?

Well done, you figured out that the entertainment industry is based on iteration and different spins on pre-existing ideas. Let's be realistic, Firefly aren't the only ones who've done a management sim based around a space station, and even if they were, the idea of doing so is so non-specific that you simply cannot sue for such an idea.

If you're not too keen on jumping right in the alpha, I'd really recommend to check out Space Colony HD over at GOG for the time being. It's quite similar to DF-9 with possibly a bigger focus on the individual colonists. Despite its age (original version is ten years old) it's easily worth your time and fun to play.

I got this game a few days ago, I like it a lot. There's some small things that annoy me like You can only rotate alarms and fire extinguishers north and east and you can't set your mapkeys to azerty keyboards as I'm used to. Learning curve is steep but that's a good thing. Makes for more satisfying game when you finally succeed, only... I get totally murderized by one or 2 insectlike things because I don't see them coming and they come early and often :(. So, just a wee little warning would be nice. I do realize game is by no means in its ready state so I'm not complaining about it. Just noting them. Great game, would recommend it to all sandbox loving gamers. Great work.

I'd like to say I have this Alpha 1B now and it's quite fun to play. Still needs work like camera angle change. And the most major thing that is not work very well now. The AI doesn't really function very well. They don't do their task properly. They sometimes refuse do to anything just sit there and "exercise" they also don't really do any maintenance to the objects like none . Overall I love it. Can't wait for the final version with all the final stuff :D quite excited

Yes. And sometimes miners just stay outside and run out of air while the other miners bring in the resources. Air supply units keep lighting on fire and apparently 10 techs are not good enough to repair 5 air units. Other units constantly try to board derelict ships that I'm trying to dismantle and remove a wall while inside and get sucked out.

Excited to play this, loved the Amnesia demo, but I have to say: the portraits really don't mesh well with the aesthetic of the rest of the assets. There's probably some middleground between the whimsy of the ones you have now and the quality of everything else going on in the game?

IS there anyway to remove the enemy base from yours? And also is there any way to get rid of dead bodies?

Will you be able to conquer other space bases in the game? Will there be different factions that you can side with and/or destroy? Will you be able to train your units to max out their stats in building/mining/etc? Will you be able to build interior and/or exterior turrets to fend off invaders? Will you be able to colonize the universe once the initial main base is established? Will there be boss battles? Will there be endgame objectives? Will there be armors and weapons to build for your units?

Considering it is in early alpha, that's steep still. Should be at least a 20% off, 50% would be the sweet spot I'd say, lowering the discount as it reaches beta and then getting to that $5 discount as it is nearing launch.

The 'Vortex Monster' bug killed me off too. Three of my techs died, my life support rooms all caught fire, and in the resulting catastrophe two parasites wiped out almost all of my crew. I'd have been able to recover, though, if all my new arrivals hadn't immediately gone off to fight the vortex monster, leaving me without any way of regaining ground. That's one bug that really is a bug, not a feature.

Is it just me, or do the lines that intersect the crosshair at the location selection screen go the wrong way? With the galaxy tilted the way it is, it doesn't match up. It's like a horizon line that's off.

For now it is $24.99 on steam for the regular version. I think this is too expensive compared to other games, such as Space Engineers which I beleive is $14.99. If it went on sale during Alpha, or just went on a weekend sale, I would rush to buy it. Until then, it will just remain on my wishlist. But it looks pretty cool, and I have seen a few people (such as Nerd3, Enter Elysium, TotalBiscuit) try it out. I hope There is a sale so I can too.

The spacebase deployment screen looks familiar with the settlement deployment screen from dwarf fortress. The upper right Informations looks familiar. Also the name DF9 -> Dwarf Fortress? Any other references?

Remember guys, you're not paying 25 USD for a buggy, feauture lacking game. You're paying for the seed to space base management/construction/life-sim/management them up. It takes a bit of faith, but this video shows that the debs are deserving of it.

I love the game so far, but I just can't play it anymore. The AI bugs are just so bad. I understand it's an alpha, so I'll be awaiting the next update. The AI just gets themselves killed, refuses to do orders and takes the worst route to any place I do tell them to go to. The game looks so promising though, keep up the good work, devs!

But being an alpha build does make it a lot different. Not finished. Meaning it is constantly being developed and not everything is implemented. They said it many times in the video.

This game looks like it has incredible potential, but at the point it seems like there just isn't enough to do. Airlock, life support, mining, pub and visitors is pretty much everything from what I can tell. Any chance of doing a vlog of some kind to talk about additional content that we might be able to expect?

there was a person under the base but their ai thought they were in because they went in at the same time. so they just went under and keeps trying to use the locker. thumbs up so the developers can see!

Guys the one feature I think this game needs is better ai because when I build a large room all my builders won't go to the airlock until they're at like 2% o2 left I try but they all die

The only thing that is similar is the grid based building style. The game also does not have as much humour compared to Startopia. A pity really considering that is what DoubleFine is known for (At least for me). Granted, this is only the Alpha build, so they might insert more humour in their future releases.

Again, you don't have to submit bug reports, they don't even ask you to. You're just asking for a massive discount because you payed for the game early and got early access. Whether or not you even play the alpha is up to you.

Yes, but usually you pay less during development stage as there is no guarantee of how the final project might be or if it will ever even be.

DoubleFine, I am aware it is a little too late to change the price without angering those who have already bought it for 24.99, and I am also aware that you need the money. But if you would lower the price to $10 a lot more people would buy, me being one of them. Feel free to raise to $25.99 in beta and then your final price (no more than $30 I hope) for the full game. Maybe give those who already bought a 2nd key as a thank you for early support? Idk but consider lowering the price ^_^!

I didn't, but it wasn't a ressource. It just appeared after activating those O2-Recyclers. That doesn't make any sense. For me that's simply not enough. I would love to see some kind of production chain. It doesn't have to be too fancy, but a bit more than what has been shown in the video would be cool.

Precisely because it is not a pre-order that it usually costs less. You indeed ain't buying for early access, you are getting it to assist and follow development. If you don't put a big discount on it you are just paying to work for the game developer as a tester (which a lot of people do nowadays without even realizing). I'm not against helping a game dev, but I'm not into paying to work.

Well $5 is actually 20% off. But I get your point, however you aren't signing up to have to play it early. Getting a game 50% just for buying it in advance would be a bit gratuitous if the only reason for the discount is that you got early access. Imagine if preorders gave you 50% off.

Hmmm Well i do like the game allot it reminds me of startopia&Dwarforess And i just love the whole losing is fun idea behind the game! However the Price for Alpha is just Too high So yes the game eather needs more fetures or a lower Alpha Price Before id buy it
