1) The Gits were an American punk rock band, formed in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1986. Known for their part in the burgeoning Seattle music scene of the early 1990s, they were known for their fiery live performances. Members included singer Mia Zapata, guitarist Joe Spleen (born Andy Kessler), bassist Matt Dresdner and drummer Steve Moriarty. They dissolved in 1993 after the murder of Zapata.
During their existence, the band released two studio albums, one compilation of early recordings, one live recording, three 7" singles and appeared on various compilations. The band also recorded on a few independent labels, and released its two studio albums on C/Z Records. In 2003, each release in the band's discography was remastered and expanded with bonus tracks on Broken Rekids.
Though the band never signed with a major label and never reached a mainstream audience, Zapata has nevertheless been cited as an influence by many female vocalists.

The Gits Lyrics

The things you push for now are just forgotten the next day
And then you masturbate in your thoughts in our own eyes
Then you push some things on us you wont let us deny
There you go pushing us again
Well, I wont always have to understand
There you're setting your own life on lies, forget about tomorrow, we're here to survive
But still you do not try to push away your old mistakes.
And now I find myself underhand to what you want, you think you'll find it better, child?
Well, go out and find it all!
The Gits’ song “A” is a powerful commentary on the destructive nature of arrogance and selfishness. The first verse describes a person who is obsessed with their own desires and uses others to fulfill them. They are forgetful and inconstant, always focused on the latest thing that catches their attention. And yet, despite their disregard for others, they demand that others give in to their whims. The second verse speaks directly to this person, urging them to reconsider their priorities. The singer admits that they do not always understand this person’s actions, but they implore them to think about the consequences of their choices. The closing lines of the song suggest that the person should take control of their life and make meaningful changes for the better.
Overall, the song seems to be a call for empathy and awareness of others. The person described in the song is not necessarily malicious, but they are careless and self-centered. The singer urges them to consider the impact of their choices on those around them, and to take responsibility for their actions. In a larger sense, the song can be seen as a critique of a society that values individualism above all else. It suggests that real fulfillment comes not from satisfying one’s own desires, but from making meaningful connections with others.
