The band formed in February 2005 by Adam and played their first gig (a set of covers) at a MYB in Macclesfield two days later (the gig was actually booked before they had a drummer). They were received very well and all five guys decided to take things seriously (the idea had originally been just for the one show). A couple of months later and Drive Like I Do (or Me and You vs Them at the time) started to write original material and since then have recorded two 4 track demos, one in July at the Cutting Rooms in Manchester and the latest in Newcastle in October
Au Bord de la Mer
Drive Like I Do Lyrics

I turn my car around in your drive
You've got a great apartment
It's such a shame we can't go inside
And she said
"All the drinks are all on me"
And she said
And all, and all, and all, and
All, and all, and all, and all
Come back to my apartment
And don't be afraid of the ghost
Tonight baby girl we'll have a party
And they'll just be invisible hosts for you
And she said
"All the drinks are all on me"
And she said
"All the drinks are all on me"
And all, and all, and all, and
All, and all, and all, and all
Grab your shoes and your bag
Grab a coat we're home
And then she just flew back home
Then she just flew back home
And then she just flew back home
And then, and then
And she just flew back home
Then she just flew back home
The lyrics to "Au Bord de la Mer" by Drive Like I Do convey a sense of longing and missed opportunities in a relationship. The singer is in a state of calmness, described as a "zen-like state," as they turn their car around in the love interest's driveway. The love interest has a great apartment, but they are unable to go inside, indicating some kind of barrier or restriction in their connection.
The singer mentions a conversation where the love interest says, "All the drinks are all on me." This could symbolize their willingness to take care of the singer and provide comfort and enjoyment in the relationship. However, despite this offer, they are still unable to be together. The repetition of "and all" throughout the song emphasizes this sense of missed opportunity and frustration.
The second verse introduces the idea of going back to the singer's apartment, with the reassurance that there is no need to be afraid of the ghosts. This could imply that the singer's past experiences or emotional baggage are the hindrance to their relationship. The reference to invisible hosts suggests that their presence, or the memories and issues of the past, will still affect the dynamics between them.
The closing lines hint at the ephemeral nature of the relationship. The love interest, who is metaphorically compared to a bird ("she just flew back home"), leaves. This departure may symbolize the love interest's decision to leave the relationship or simply the transient nature of their connection.
Overall, "Au Bord de la Mer" explores themes of missed opportunities, longing, and the complexities of relationships that are hindered by external factors or emotional baggage.

It's insane how their Drive like I Do/Big Sleep stuff sounds so American pop-punk/emo inspired. A complete stark contrast juxtaposition of the 1975.

It's impossible now but God damn would Fix Me Marianas Trench and Drive Like I Do make a great collaborative team. Ramsay Fiction would've even made an interesting team with DLID.

I really like this vibe from the 1975. All of their new wave psychedelic stuff is the best. I can liken this to You, Me, head.cars.bending, Medicine, etc. Their 80's inspired stuff really resonates too but I prefer this side of them
