The band formed in February 2005 by Adam and played their first gig (a set of covers) at a MYB in Macclesfield two days later (the gig was actually booked before they had a drummer). They were received very well and all five guys decided to take things seriously (the idea had originally been just for the one show). A couple of months later and Drive Like I Do (or Me and You vs Them at the time) started to write original material and since then have recorded two 4 track demos, one in July at the Cutting Rooms in Manchester and the latest in Newcastle in October

God only knows but you'll never leave her
Her balaclava is starting to chafe
When she gets his gun he's begging, babe stay stay
I'll give you one more time
We'll give you one more fight
Said one more line
Now if you never shoot, you'll never know
And if you never eat, you'll never grow
You've got a pretty kind of dirty face
And when she's leaving your home
She's begging you to stay stay stay stay stay
I'll give you want more time
We'll give you one more fight
Said one more line
There'll be a riot, ‘cause I know you
Well now that you've got your gun
It's much harder now the police have come
Now shoot him if it's what you ask
But if you just take off your mask
You'd find out, everything's gone wrong
Now everybody's dead
And they're driving past my old school
And he's got his gun, he's got his suit on
She says: babe, you look so cool
You look so cool, you look so cool, cool, cool, cool
You look so cool, you look so cool, you look so cool, cool, cool, cool, cool
"Robbers" is a song by Drive Like I Do, later known as The 1975. The song describes a dangerous and thrilling relationship between two people who rob a bank together. The first verse introduces the female character of the story, who has a beautiful face and fascinates the male character. They both wear black "balaclavas" (a type of ski mask) for the robbery, but hers is chafing. When she takes the gun, he begs her to stay. The chorus repeats the phrase "I'll give you one more time" and "one more fight" and "one more line," which might be the last chance the characters have to escape their criminal fate.
The second verse explores the consequences of taking risks. The writer uses metaphors to convey that if you never take a chance, you'll never know what you're capable of or what you might miss. The female character leaves the male character's home, begging him to stay. The chorus repeats, and the male character appears to be accepting of his fate. The bridge describes the aftermath of the heist. The police have arrived, and the male character is holding the gun. The female character is still trying to capture the excitement of the experience and jokingly tells him he looks "cool" in his suit.
