What Can I Do
E-Town Concrete Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Trying so hard to forget to remember.
One sip to take the sorrow.
One sip to face tomorrow.
Sip; swallow your pride, wallow and hide.
Hollow inside and I wish that I could take the sun and make it shine;
take your pain and make it mine.
I can't do anything at all.
I can't keep catching when you fall.
If I can't do anything at all, what can I do?
Open the bottle and erase your memories.
Stumble and fall, sipping and slipping away from it all.
Take your pain and make it mine.
Take the sun and make it shine.

Take your shoes and walk in mine.
Walk in mine.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to E-Town Concrete's song "What Can I Do" convey a sense of helplessness and desperation. The singer is struggling to forget painful memories and uses alcohol as a temporary escape. The lines "One sip to take the sorrow, one sip to face tomorrow" suggest that the singer is using alcohol as a crutch to cope with their emotions and face the next day. The repetition of the word "sip" and the references to swallowing pride and wallowing highlight a sense of self-destructive behavior.

The line "Hollow inside and I wish that I could take the sun and make it shine; take your pain and make it mine" reveals a desire to alleviate both their own emptiness and the pain of someone else. However, the singer acknowledges their limitations, expressing their frustration with the inability to do anything at all. The final plea of "what can I do?" encapsulates a feeling of powerlessness and the realization that they cannot fix everything.

Overall, the song explores themes of escapism, self-medication, frustration, and the inability to solve others' problems.

Favorite song by them!

Anthony Battista

These dudes started out rapping over drums as a joke band. Even their name was meant to be a corny joke. I think "over the top wiggerness" is an integral part of this obviously talented band.

Music is music, everybody can say that they had great taste in it, in some way or another. Music is an opinion, friend, and so everybody is entitled to their own. That said, I DO miss listening to these guys.
