Hello Scotland
EF Lyrics

City streets, late spring
Where smoke covers everything
That's where we push our eyes
In front of ourselves

City streets, late spring
Where smoke covers everything
That's where we push our eyes
In front of ourselves

For being true, for being hurt

City streets in late spring
Where smoke covers everyone and everything
Heavy winds won't bother us
It won't break no trees, it won't break no bones

City streets in late spring
Where smoke covers everyone and everything
Heavy winds won't bother us
It won't break no trees, it won't break no bones

Heavy winds: it won't break no trees, it won't break no bones

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of EF's song "Hello Scotland" convey a sense of searching and introspection as the singer walks down city streets in late spring. The smoke that covers everything seems to represent a kind of fog or confusion that clouds people's perceptions, while the repeated phrase "That's where we push our eyes / In front of ourselves" implies a sense of trying to look forward and stay focused despite the distractions of everyday life. The chorus repeats the line "For being true, for being hurt," which could be interpreted as a kind of mantra or reminder to stay true to oneself even in the face of adversity.

The second verse continues to describe the city streets in late spring, but this time with a sense of resilience and strength. The heavy winds that would normally knock down trees and buildings won't bother the singer, suggesting a sense of durability and perseverance. Overall, the song seems to express a mix of vulnerability and determination, with a focus on navigating life's struggles while staying true to oneself.

Jillian

It's been years since I discovered this song and I don't think I've ever come back to explain what it means to me.
When I was a sophomore in high school, I heard this little hidden gem on Pandora. Of course I fell in love with it, so I searched it up on Youtube and began listening to it when I worked. It slowly became a daily routine. Whenever I needed to focus, it was Hello Scotland. Whenever I needed to calm down, it was Hello Scotland. Whenever I just wanted something to make me feel like I was on top of the world, it was always this song. I even had it bookmarked on my old computer.
There's just something about it. I can't accurately describe the way this song makes me feel, or all the memories I have associated it with. I'm writing this from my university as a freshman who, just like my younger self, was looking for good music to listen to as I worked. I hadn't put on this song in a while, so I was shocked by the wave of emotions I felt as I pressed play. All the memories are coming back, reminding me that even in the midst of stress, sadness, or despair, there are beautiful things left in this chaotic world.
Beautiful things like this song.
Thank you, EF, for giving me something to truly connect to.

This is the best one for me, for year, too. I think you will love their new one 'Apricity' from the new album. It is different but similar vibe.
