Moody Ballad of Ed
Ed Sheeran Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come on now
Dry your eyes
I'm sick of all your lies
I've grown to despise you

Already sick of what you're saying
Hoping now I'm only praying
My baby's gone away
And I've already packed my bags

You didn't know me
(I've run away)
You couldn't show me
(What you have to say)
My one and only
Has gone away

Far away

You'll never leave me alone
Now I'm off on my own
I'll never ring your phone again

And still you keep on crying
If I said I loved you
I'd be lying
You need to dry your eyes
And I've still gone to pack my bags

You didn't know me
(I've run away)
You couldn't show me
(What you have to say)
My one and only
Has gone away

You didn't know me
(I've run away)
You couldn't show me
(What you have to say)
My one and only
Has gone away

Far away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ed Sheeran's song "Moody Ballad of Ed" convey the feelings and emotions of a person who has reached their breaking point in a relationship. This person is addressing their partner, expressing their frustration with their lies and deception. They have grown to despise their partner and have decided to leave.

The singer reflects on how they are already tired of their partner's words and hopes that by leaving, they can find solace in prayer. Their baby has left them, and they have already packed their bags, ready to move on from the relationship.

The chorus highlights the singer's determination to be free from their partner's presence. They assert that their partner will never be able to keep them from moving on and that they will no longer call or contact them. The singer believes that even if they were to say "I love you," it would be a lie. They urge their partner to dry their eyes, as they have already moved on.

Overall, the lyrics depict a sense of liberation and the decision to escape a toxic relationship. The singer has become disillusioned and resolved to let go, emphasizing their desire to distance themselves both physically and emotionally from their former partner.

Even at 13 years old, Ed Sheeran was a talented kid. His voice is still lovely, but he’s clearly a baritone now. Back then he was a tenor.

Cwancys Cent

even if you don't have a beautiful voice, sing the ugly ....

MODENESS

No tenor i think)Specially falsetto

Andrew Thomas

....wow, this might be his best work....

Truth Boy

This recording isn't from 'Spinning Man' its from a later Sheeran EP called 'The Orange Room'.

gx1tar1er

He's influenced by Noel Gallagher too I can hear. Listen to the solo part before the song ends.

Truth Boy

I can I buy this cd somewhere?

Chalupa007

BMG Music Group there’s 4 owners of the album now. I owned copy #5 and gave it back to Ed.

They’re out there & the tracks online are NOT the spinning man version. They are much different when it comes to the recording.

Cwancys Cent

18 destroyed, 1 sold and 1 left to himself ... probably five songs from this album will not be heard anywhere

Dana Money

Ed has 20 copies that he keeps to never be released
