A jazz guitarist born in Little Rock, Arkansas. Died of cancer on July 12, 2007.
Eddie Fisher spent the first 17 years of his life in Little Rock, Arkansas. From the age of 10, he developed a love for music; influenced and supported by his father. After graduating from high school, Fisher left home and headed for Memphis, Tennessee, where he continued to improve his guitar technique and musical skills. He spent the next several years touring with such famous musicians as Salomon Burke and Albert King. Fisher then became a founding member of the Leo's Five Band and decided to settle down in St. Louis, Missouri.
Eddie Fisher worked as Albert King's bandleader before embarking on a solo career. He released two classic albums, "The Third Cup" and "The Next One Hundred Years", blending soul, funk, jazz and touches of psychedelia, in the late 1960's.
Eddie Fisher's third album "Hot Lunch" was released on the All Platinum label, and after that he launched his own indie operation Nentu. In 2004, he was voted into the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame.

Outside of Heaven
Eddie Fisher Lyrics

There stands the gate to paradise
But you don't hear the heart that cries
Outside of heaven
You're happy there with someone new
Good luck to him, good luck to you
I count the dreams that won't come true
On your wedding day I stood in the crowd
I could hardly keep from crying out loud
There goes the kiss my lips have known
There goes the love I called my own
Why was I meant to walk alone
Outside of heaven
(Outside of heaven)
(Outside of heaven)
On your wedding day I stood in the crowd
I could hardly keep from crying out loud
There goes the kiss my lips have known
There goes the love I called my own
Why was I meant to walk alone
Outside of heaven
The song "Outside of Heaven" by Eddie Fisher is a poignant expression of heartbreak and unrequited love. The lyrics describe the singer's experience of passing by his former lover's house, where he sees the "gate to paradise" but can only stand outside, listening to his own heart cry. He knows that his former lover has moved on and found happiness with someone new; he wishes them well but can't help counting "the dreams that won't come true" for him. The second verse goes even deeper, describing the pain of witnessing his former lover's wedding and feeling the loss of their love as a personal tragedy. The final chorus reiterates the title phrase, "outside of heaven," as a metaphor for the singer's exclusion from the happiness and fulfillment that he associates with love.

I pass your house with misty eyes
I feel sad when I go past your house
There stands the gate to paradise

Outside of heaven
Because I'm not with you
You're happy there with someone new
You found someone else and are content

I hope you both are happy together
I count the dreams that won't come true
I realize that my hopes for us won't happen
