Invoking names like Dance Gavin Dance, Russian Circles, and the Dear Hunter, Eidola was founded in 2011 by Andrew Michael Wells (vocals), Brandon Bascom (guitar, vocals), James Johnson (bass), Matthew Dommer (guitar, vocals), and Matthew Hansen (drums). The band self-released its 2012 debut album, The Great Glass Elephant. Two years later the group inked a deal with Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Will Swan's indie label Blue Swan Records and issued Degeneraterra. In early 2017 they dropped the single "Amplissimus Machina" ahead of the arrival of their third studio long-player, To Speak, to Listen, which featured guest spots from Joey Lancaster, ex-A Lot Like Birds bassist Matthew Coate, and saxophonist Nicholas Pope. Guitarist Brandon Bascom left the fold shortly after the album's release and was replaced by Sergio Medina. In 2021, Eidola unveiled the fiery "Counterfeit Shines," their first new single in four years. It appeared on their fourth full-length effort, 2021's Rise-issued The Architect. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi

The Abstract of a Planet in Resolve
Eidola Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On the precipice of breathlessness, my lungs collapse
I can't escape the act
If I live in a city where they hunt me down
How long do you expect me to stay and wait to calibrate?
If I bribe the committee with an offering
Will they offer me commitment or calcify the magistrate?
Because when I give in
I hope that I can be a better man in the end and carry on
But when you give up
Then everything we've ever shared will self-destruct and tip the scales
Choose to prevail
If I live in a country where they propagate the wealth
In corporate raids then who am I to speak?
They forgive you of nothing
And they breed, and they breed, and they breed until they overstimulate the earth and feed upon the weak
Because when I give in
I hope that I can be a better man in the end and carry on
But when you give up
Then everything we've ever shared will self-destruct and tip the scales
Choose to prevail
If I live in a world where a consciousness exists
Outside the walls of pain, ignorance, and habitual waste
Then I will stand on the edge of the earth
As a monument to the greater good of man
To be born again
The lyrics to Eidola's song "The Abstract of a Planet in Resolve" are reflective of the struggles and existential crises that many face in trying to navigate a world that is rife with corruption, inequality, and oppression. The song opens with the singer expressing their sense of breathlessness - a feeling of suffocation that is symbolic of the pressures and constraints of society that they feel trapped by. They recognize that they cannot escape from the act of living in a world that forces them to face difficult choices and confront injustice, but they still question how long they can endure it.
The verses highlight different forms of oppression that exist in society, whether it be the threat of persecution in a city that hunts them down, the overwhelming power of corporate greed in a country, or the mind-numbing thoughtlessness and brutality of the world at large. Despite the bleakness of the situation, the chorus presents a message of hope and resilience. The singer acknowledges that giving in is not an option and that they must choose to prevail, even if it means standing at the edge of the earth as a monument to the greater good of mankind.
Overall, "The Abstract of a Planet in Resolve" is a powerful song that explores deep themes of oppression, resilience, and the human capacity to persevere in the face of adversity.

You guys truly deserve every cent you get. I'm saying this as a fan, a broke fan. Everyone, support them! I understand it can be tough. But they really deserve it. They worked their asses off on EVERYTHING they have made thus far. That's a testament to their dedication to quality and their passion for this glorious art.
