Elba Ramalho was born in the rural area of Conceição, in Vale do Piancó. In 1962, the family moved to the city of Campina Grande, also in Paraíba. Her father became the owner of the local theater. Daughter of a musician, she became interested in music still as a teenager.
In 1966, she participated, for the first time, in a performance on stage, in the Choir of the Fundação Artística e Cultural Manuel Bandeira, of which she was a member, with "Evocação do Recife". The Manuel Bandeira and Cecília Meireles Talking Choirs gained fame and started to be seen all over the Northeast, and Elba, who made her first presentation on stage together with them, soon became the highlight in the presentations. She starred in the poetic montages of Castro Alves, Thiago de Mello, Lindolfo Bell, Carlos Pena Filho and Figueiredo Agra. He participated in the montages of the plays "Ministro do Supremo" and "Diálogo das Carmelitas."
In 1968, while attending college of Economics and Sociology at the Federal University of Paraíba, she formed the ensemble As Brasas, in which she acted as drummer, which later became a theater group. However, Elba never stopped singing, and performed in several festivals throughout the Northeast.
In 1979, she released her first album, "Ave de Prata", and since then she has consolidated her position as one of the main Brazilian singers in activity. On her father's side, she is a cousin of fellow singer Zé Ramalho.
She has two Latin Grammys for her albums: Qual o Assunto Que Mais Lhe importa?, released in 2008, and Balaio de Amor, 2009, in the category Best Brazilian Roots Album: Regional and Tropical. In over 35 years of career, Elba Ramalho has sold more than 10 million albums. She received from the Art Critics Association of São Paulo the award "Best Show of the Year" on two occasions: in 1989 for the show Popular Brasileira and in 1996 for the show Leão do Norte.
Lua Viva
Elba Ramalho Lyrics

Que abre a porta do céu do sertão
Que abre a mente com a chave nova
Pro coração
A lua viva é como a mente cheia
Que abre a vida pra nova visão
Do coração
E novamente a lua cheia brilha
E faz um rastro claro pelo céu
Como se a chave houvesse aberto a porta
Do universo sobre o meu chapéu
A lua cheia lá da Paraíba
É como a chave cheia de ambição
Que abre a porta para o universo
Do coração
These lyrics from Elba Ramalho's song "Lua Viva" portray the moon as a symbol of enlightenment and liberation. The first verse compares the full moon to a clear key that opens the door to the heavens of the sertão, a semi-arid region in Brazil. It suggests that the moon holds the power to unlock the mind and open up a new understanding in the heart. The use of the word "lua viva" (live moon) in the second verse emphasizes the dynamic and transformative nature of the moon, comparing it to a mind that is filled with knowledge and experiences.
The lyrics continue, stating that the moon's liveliness opens up the possibilities of a new vision in life, acting as a gateway to the universe that exists within the heart. The repetition of the phrase "lua cheia" (full moon) in the third verse suggests the cyclical and continuous nature of this enlightenment. It describes the moon shining brightly, leaving a clear trail in the sky as if it had opened the door to the universe, symbolically placed over the singer's hat.
The final verse specifically references the full moon in Paraíba, a state in Brazil. It describes it as a key full of ambition that opens the door to the universe in the heart. This suggests that the moon in Paraíba holds a special significance, perhaps representing the aspirations and dreams of the people from that region.
Overall, these lyrics show the moon as a powerful and transformative force, capable of unlocking new perspectives and understanding in our minds and hearts.

A bela letra da música cita a lua no Céu clareando algum lugar na noite paraibana , talvez a Lua cheia estacionou um pouco no céu da linda Paraíba refletindo raios de luzes em todo o oceano Atlântico , luzindo a madrugada da Liberia .
