The oblivion and ecstasy of crushing doom and high grade marijuana, a sonic aural trip far, far away from this world, where only cyclopean walls of crackling vintage tube amps in full overdrive and primal ritualistic beats can wash away all the filth and drudgery of everyday life. Their music can be described as Doom Metal. Their sound is a crushing behemoth of funeral march psychedelia. Violent, bleak and ritualistic.
Born in Dorset, England in 1993, in a quiet country town, initially they were the product of frustration, unemployment and excessive drug abuse. But through hallucinogenic experimentation and occult sciences they realized their true potential. A celebration of outre low brow art like Weird Tales, 70's horror and B-movies, head shop art, drug comix, italian pornohorror comics, Crepax, Lovecraft, Howard etc. etc...coupled with a morbid fascination in cults, witchcraft, freemasonry, biker culture, mysticism and ancient occult sciences and how these dark arts can be applied to music.
Their history actually starts in 1988 when Justin Oborn created a doom-influenced death metal band called Lord of Putrefaction. The above mentioned band released only several demos but it showed the unique talent of Justin Oborn in the art of creating heavy slow riffs. In 1992 Lord of Putrefaction disbanded and Justin Oborn started another band called Thy Grief Eternal which moved more towards the doom metal genre though still it had significant death metal influence. The music was more refined and mature. Then in 1993 Thy Grief Eternal was disbanded and the band Eternal was crated. This band played pure stoner doom though the quality can't even come close to the next and the last band in this history, Electric Wizard. Mark Greening left Ramesses to re-join the band in late 2012.

Time to Die
Electric Wizard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Raped & tortured, yeah whatever man
Hatred, greed & misery
Is this to be, our foul destiny?
I wanna scream but I'm sick, this world inherited by the weak
But I don't care what you say all the flowers turned to black and died anyway...
It's Time To Die
Wake up baby it's time to die
This world is dead, seek your own way
I've a gun named Oblivion that'll take all the pain away
All our pain away...Yeah
It's Time To Die
We're all shadows in the darkness
Wake up baby it's time to die, I said
Wake the children it's Time To Die
It's time to die...DIE!!
Maybe I'm already dead.......
We're all shadows in the darkness
The lyrics to Electric Wizard's song Time To Die speak to the nihilistic perspective of the songwriter. The barren earth is described as being defiled by man, and the world is full of hatred, greed, and misery. The singer is sickened by the state of the world and wants to scream, but feels it's pointless because the world is inherited by the weak. The flowers are all dead and it's time to die. There's no more time to cry because the world is already dead. The singer suggests that each individual finds their own path and deals with their pain with a gun named Oblivion that can take all the pain away.

This album has gotten lukewarm reviews on Encyclopaedia Metallum, and unjustifiably so. What the hell do you want from perfect Doom other than dopey, chugging, repetitive, death-wallowing, depressive, deliciousness? This is Electric Wizards' Magnum Opus! Nobody, and I mean NOBODY creates that mood better!

Your all fools. The only true EW album that kicks utter ass is Come My Fanatics.
Almost a decade and a half I took the trip past the two black towers.
I never came back the same on the Return Trip.

Metallum is foolish elitist crap.

This is nowhere near EW's magnum opus. Dopethrone, Come My Fanatics, Witchcult today, Let Us Prey, We Live are all better than Time To Die. Time to die is still a good album and better than their latest one tho.

Donβt tell anyone, but this may actually be my favorite Wizard album.
