Walking in the dark
Ellen Allien's "Walking In The Dark" is a song that is somewhat minimalist and repetitive, yet its meaning can be interpreted in different ways. The lyrics, "Walking in the dark, like the machine," suggest a person's emotional state, perhaps feeling numb or robotic, and going through the motions without feeling anything. The repetitive use of "like the machine" reinforces the idea that the individual is going about life as if they were on autopilot, with no real sense of purpose or direction.
Alternatively, the lyrics can also be interpreted in a more positive light, suggesting that the individual is fully immersed in their work, with a strong focus and sense of drive. The repetition of the phrase "Walking in the dark" can be seen as a metaphor for the unknown path that they are walking, with a certain degree of fear and uncertainty, but with the belief that they are on the right track.
