Founded in 1969 by guitarist Frank Bornemann, the band has endured several line-up changes, with Bornemann being the only consistent member of the group. In the 1980s, after a series of major splits (like in 1984 although reformed in 1988) in the group, Bornemann pursued a more commercial direction. Despite attracting a large following, the band never gained popularity in the United States.
However, in later years, former members of the band re-joined, and in 1998 fans delighted in hearing Ocean 2, a return to the classic symphonic progressive genre that the band was so well known for. A sequel to the 1977's original, it is commonly thought among fans that it successfully recaptures the spirit of the band, and is a worthy follow-up to the much beloved classic.
Of the band's numerous records, fans generally consider Inside, Floating, Dawn, Ocean, Silent Cries & Mighty Echoes, Planets and Ocean 2 to be the superior albums.
Despite their nationality, the band is not generally considered krautrock due to their sound which has much more in common with English progressive groups such as Pink Floyd and Yes.
In 2009 after a decade of hiatus Frank Bornemann released a DVD celebrating their 40th anniversary and a new album called Visionairy.
In the following period he worked on a concept double album about the life of the Maid of Orleans, Jeanne d'Arc. The album The Vision, the Sword and the Pyre, Pt. 1 was released in 2017, followed by The Vision, the Sword and the Pyre, Pt. 2 in 2019.

As you think about
Cities growing up
Until it's crushing you
Guess how you feel
What's like a sketching
Your breathing
Guess how you feel
Guess how you feel
Guess how you feel
The day is dark
When you wake up in the morning
The streets are bare
When death is going round and around
Time's gone on
As you think about
Cities growing up
Until it's crushing you
Guess how you feel
What's like a sketching
Your breathing
Guess how you feel
Guess how you feel
Guess how you feel
Guess how you feel
The lyrics to Eloy's "Future City" paint a bleak picture of urbanization and industrialization. The singer reflects on how time has passed, and as he contemplates cities growing and expanding, he feels crushed by their weight. The first lines suggest that the gradual changes of urbanization can be overwhelming and suffocating, as if a sketch of a city is taking over the singer's space, leaving him with difficult breathing. The repetition of "Guess how you feel" emphasizes the existential dread that comes with the changes wrought by industrialization in society.
The second half of the song laments the emptiness and darkness that can befall the urban landscape. The singer wakes up in a dark world where death seems to be going round and around, and the streets are bare, further emphasizing the emptiness and lack of life in this urban environment. The lyrics suggest a longing for connection and meaning, something lost in the frenetic pace of urbanization.

Great tune, album, but the instrumental break starting ~ 1:50 - 4:15 Kills me ... especially the Bass groove.

Is that now good or bad?
Because that part isn't only my favorite part of the song or the album, that's one of my favorite parts of music in general!
I honestly often start at 1:50 and end at 4:15. :D
