Founded in 1969 by guitarist Frank Bornemann, the band has endured several line-up changes, with Bornemann being the only consistent member of the group. In the 1980s, after a series of major splits (like in 1984 although reformed in 1988) in the group, Bornemann pursued a more commercial direction. Despite attracting a large following, the band never gained popularity in the United States.
However, in later years, former members of the band re-joined, and in 1998 fans delighted in hearing Ocean 2, a return to the classic symphonic progressive genre that the band was so well known for. A sequel to the 1977's original, it is commonly thought among fans that it successfully recaptures the spirit of the band, and is a worthy follow-up to the much beloved classic.
Of the band's numerous records, fans generally consider Inside, Floating, Dawn, Ocean, Silent Cries & Mighty Echoes, Planets and Ocean 2 to be the superior albums.
Despite their nationality, the band is not generally considered krautrock due to their sound which has much more in common with English progressive groups such as Pink Floyd and Yes.
In 2009 after a decade of hiatus Frank Bornemann released a DVD celebrating their 40th anniversary and a new album called Visionairy.
In the following period he worked on a concept double album about the life of the Maid of Orleans, Jeanne d'Arc. The album The Vision, the Sword and the Pyre, Pt. 1 was released in 2017, followed by The Vision, the Sword and the Pyre, Pt. 2 in 2019.

When we shall overcome
There's no more hesitation
For the sun will greet the day
I know you get your morning
People are near
Ready to hear
You still remember how
People forget someone
Therefore you have to call
Up their minds in all
Give out your message now
And all do understand
And if you realize
You can get your price
I want to know
How you just feel
When everyone
Just gets his meal
When freedom bells
Are ringing then
I'm sure, that day will come
When we shall overcome
There's no more hesitation
For the sun will greet the day
I know you get your morning
People are near
Ready to hear
Trying to understand you
I want to know
How you just feel
When everyone
Just gets his meal
When freedom bells
Are ringing then
The lyrics to Eloy's song "Voice of Revolution" are a call to action for change and revolution. The singer is expressing confidence that the day will come when they will overcome their struggles and that the sun will greet that day, suggesting a new dawn of hope and prosperity. The singer emphasizes the importance of communication, urging people to speak out and spread their message to others. The song acknowledges the fear and hesitation one may feel in challenging the status quo, but stresses the importance of persevering and calling upon people to understand the need for change.
The second verse reveals that the singer has experienced being overlooked and forgotten by others, but recognizes the power of words to change minds and spark revolution. The line "give out your message now, and all do understand" underlines that the message is important enough to be heard and internalized by all. The song ends by asking how it will feel when everyone has what they need and freedom bells are ringing.
In summary, "Voice of Revolution" is a powerful anthem of hope and action, encouraging people to speak out against injustice and oppression to achieve a new day of freedom and prosperity for all.

So, I notice that Eloy on its frist eponymous album, the band is more oriented to hard rock than progressive while the band's newer albums are truly pprogressive in the way of Pink Floyd and Alan Parson's Project with electronic sounds!
