Upon the band's formation, they released one extended play (EP) in 2007, titled This Is Your Way Out, and shortly after, the group underwent significant line-up and sound changes, dropping their metalcore influence and leaning towards a more rock sound. The band released their debut studio album, Relativity (2008), which featured vocalist Jonny Craig and rhythm guitarist Jonas Ladekjaer. Their second studio album, Emarosa, was released in June 2010, to critical acclaim, and was Craig's final album with the group.
Following Craig's departure, the band toured briefly with a fill-in vocalist before entering a period of inactivity. Eventually, Craig was formally replaced by Walden. Emarosa then released their third studio album, Versus, on September 9, 2014, which peaked at No. 61 in the Billboard 200. The band signed to Hopeless Records and released their fourth and fifth studio albums, 131 (2016) and Peach Club (2019). A sixth, Sting, is set for release in January 2023.

Just Another Marionette
Emarosa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The shortness of stride,
not a single excuse to prove that we were meant for this
Everything starts to spin all at once
If you hear something strange in my voice oh its conviction
Detest my words they have no ill meaning
Run your fingers back and forth over this sheet of paper
So where's the heart?
Its not coming through
Who is this for?
So where's the heart?
If you hear something strange in my voice oh its conviction
Detest my words they have no I'll meaning
Were caught between the storms that never mattered
Oh dear puppet wake up and cut the strings before the next show
I believe that this is in your blood,
by all means take your place, take your place
Put yourself into this letter
We've all had it alright
We dropped the ball.
The lyrics to Emarosa's song "Just Another Marionette" are about the fear that sets in when we realize just how short our time is, and the shortness of stride that comes with that realization. The singer seems to be grappling with the idea that there is no excuse for not making the most of our time on earth, and that we were all meant for something greater than simply going through the motions. They have a sense of urgency, as everything starts to spin all at once, and there is a feeling that they must act quickly to make the most of their time.
The singer seems to be wrestling with their own convictions and the weight of the words they are speaking. They acknowledge that there may be something strange in their voice, but that it is due to the conviction they feel about what they are saying. They want their words to be heard, but also recognize that they may not always be taken in the way they intend. There is a sense of frustration with this, as the singer implores the listener to run their fingers back and forth over the sheet of paper, as if to try and understand the true meaning behind the words.
