She started her solo career in 1999 with a collaboration single along with Tin Tin Out for their single "What I Am", which peaked number 2 on the UK charts. Her debut solo album entitled "A Girl Like Me" was released in 2001, and spawned the UK number-one hit "What Took You So Long?", as well as the top five hits "What I Am" (a cover of a 1998's song earlier recorded by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians) and "Take My Breath Away" (which was not a cover of Berlin's 1986's hit), and top twenty hit "We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight". The album sold around 125,000 in the UK.
In spring of 2003, she returned as Emma (losing the Bunton), with the top five hit "Free Me" and later that year released "Maybe", which also went top ten and outsold the previous single. In spring of 2004, the single "I'll Be There" and the album "Free Me" were released. The album contained '60s-style pop gems and went on to outsell her first album, something other solo Spice Girls have yet to achieve. The album Free Me was released in the United States on January 25, 2005.
Emma released "Downtown" the official charity single for the BBC's 2006 Children in Need appeal, it reached number three. The album "Life in Mono" was released on (4 December).
Take Me To Another Town

I go to Hollywood
There are too many people who would kill me if they could
I go to Shanghai
I go to Tokyo
There are so many people that I'll never get to know
Gotta take my bike to the train
Bus to the beach and sail on
And then I'll surf to the shore
Walk to the car
Drive to what I can depend on
But I when I get to you
My life stops spinning around
You take me to another town
I go to Glasgow
I go to Amsterdam
There are too many people getting high because they can
I go to Cairo
I go to St. Tropez
There are so many people always getting in my way
Gotta take my bike to the train
Train to the bus
Bus to the beach and sail on
And then I'll surf to the shore
Walk to the plane
Fly to what I can depend on
But I when I get to you
Nothing gets me down
You take me to another town
I go to London
I go to Hollywood
There are too many people who would kiss me if they could
Gotta take my bike to the train
Train to the bus
Bus to the beach and sail on
And then I'll surf to the shore
Walk to the car
Drive to what I can depend on
When I get to you
What I've lost I've found
When I get to you
You take me to another town
I've been to London
I've been to Hollywood
You take me to another town
You take me to another town
In Emma Bunton's song Take Me To Another Town, the lyrics convey the singer's need to escape her current life and go to various cities around the world. The first verse discusses places like London, Hollywood, Shanghai, and Tokyo, but the singer notes that there are too many people in these places who would try to harm her, and she would never get to know everyone. The singer then talks about going to Glasgow, Amsterdam, Cairo, and St. Tropez, but notes that there are always people getting in her way and getting high.
The chorus repeats the need to take her bike to the train to the bus to the beach to sail on, and ends with the line "You take me to another town." This line is repeated in the next two verses, showing that the person the singer is talking about (presumably a lover) is the one who can truly take her away from all the chaos and confusion of life. The final repetition of the chorus adds the line "What I've lost I've found," implying that when the singer is with this person, she finds a sense of meaning and purpose in life.
Overall, the lyrics of Take Me To Another Town paint a picture of someone who is searching for meaning and escape in life, and finds it in a person who can take them away from it all. The desire to see the world and experience new things is tempered by the realization that there are always people and obstacles in the way, but the hope remains that there is someone who can make it all worth it.
