Empathy Test Lyrics

All of my ambition with the wind
Now you're here.
I never thought I would be satisfied
With anything I had
Now I'm not so sure.
I waited so long for you
Now you're here I don't know what to do
I went hunting for love
When I thought I'd lose.
I meant to shoot down a dove
Shot an angel instead.
And now she wakes up every day and she invites
All of my demons to play.
Fade in fade out like a musical
Rhythm and rhyme in time
Our heart beats sing
Just to remind you we're still alive in here.
I waited so long for you
Now you're here I don't know what to do
With you.
I went hunting for love
When I thought I'd lose.
I meant to shoot down a dove
Shot an angel instead.
And now she wakes up every day and she invites
All of my demons to play.
The lyrics of Empathy Test's "Demons" highlight the confusion and uncertainty felt by the singer as they face an unexpected turn in their life. The opening lines describe how all of their dreams and ambitions have vanished, but the arrival of someone special has changed things. The singer never thought they could be content with anything they had, but this newfound love has forced them to re-evaluate their perceptions. However, now that they have the person they’ve been waiting for, they're unsure how to deal with them.
Nevertheless, the singer knows they went looking for love during a time when they felt they were at their lowest. They had aimed to take down something small and harmless, but instead ended up destroying something beautiful, like an angel. As a consequence, the singer's partner wakes up every day and invites their demons to come out and play, indicating the lingering emotional pain the singer has caused them.
The bridge "Fade in fade out like a musical, Rhythm and rhyme in time" illustrates how the passionate feelings of the new love interest brings a new melody to the singer's heart creating a musical score that continues through the ups and downs of their evolving love story.
