Empathy Test released a double A-side single, Demons | Seeing Stars on September the 9th, 2016, which featured featured remixes by Sidewalks And Skeletons and MNYNMS, before embarking on a European tour on 16th September. Empathy Test recruited live drummer Christina Lopez and keyboard player Jacob Ferguson Lobo to accompanying Isaac on the tour. They continued to perform with Isaac until April 2017, when Jacob was replaced by Sam Winter-Quick. The band then released another single, By My Side with b-side Vampire Town and remixes by New Portals and Papertwin on February 17th, 2017. A third single, Bare My Soul was released 21st April, 2017, to coincide with a second European tour.
Empathy Test are currently crowd funding two debut albums plus a final single via PledgeMusic: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/empathy-test-album/. They are slated for release on 17th November. The first album, Losing Touch, will feature all the original 2014 EP tracks plus Demons and two previously unreleased tracks, Siamese and Sleep. Safe From Harm will feature all the singles (minus Demons) plus new tracks Safe From Harm, All It Takes, Trampoline, Everything Will Work Out and Burroughs & Bukowski. The band previously stated that Safe From Harm, the album title track, would be the final single. However, it is now looking like the final single will be Everything Will Work Out.

Empathy Test Lyrics

All the thoughts I've been keeping
On the tip of my tongue for too long.
And you're too scared of being alone
To be by yourself
Long enough to feel fine
But I see you've moved on
A little too fast
For me to believe
You've left the past behind.
I'm just another boy
With a bruised ego
Who can never let go
Of something he didn't know
He had at the time.
Isn't it always the same?
I'm too afraid to put down in words
All the thoughts I've been hiding
In the back of my mind for so long.
You say a year is plenty of time
To be by myself
Long enough to feel fine.
In my own skin.
But I see you've moved on
A little too fast
For me to believe
You've left the past behind.
I'm just another boy
With a bruised ego
Who can never let go
Of something he didn't know
He had at the time.
Isn't it always the same?
But I see you've moved on
A little too fast
For me to believe
You've left the past behind.
I'm just another boy
With a bruised ego
Who can never let go
Of something he didn't know
He had at the time.
Isn't it always the same?
"Skin" by Empathy Test is a poignant and introspective song that delves into the fear of vulnerability and the challenges of moving on from a past relationship. The lyrics express the singer's hesitation and fear of expressing their true emotions, which they have been holding onto for a long time. The phrase "I'm too afraid to put down in words all the thoughts I've been keeping on the tip of my tongue for too long" reflects their struggle to articulate their feelings and the reluctance to confront the depth of their emotions.
The song also explores the theme of fear of loneliness and the difficulty of being alone long enough to find solace in one's own identity. The line "And you're too scared of being alone to be by yourself long enough to feel fine in your own skin" speaks to the fear of being alone and the constant need for external validation to feel secure. It suggests that the person may be so dependent on others for their sense of self-worth that they struggle to be comfortable in their own skin without the presence of someone else.
The chorus reflects the singer's realization that the person they were once involved with seems to have moved on quickly, leaving them feeling like another wounded individual who cannot let go of a relationship they didn't fully appreciate at the time. The repeated phrase "Isn't it always the same?" suggests a sense of resignation and a recognition that this pattern of unrequited love and emotional struggle is a familiar theme in their life.
Overall, "Skin" is a song that explores the themes of fear, vulnerability, and the challenges of moving on from a past relationship. It captures the struggle of expressing emotions, the fear of being alone, and the difficulty of letting go.

Guys it's fantastic! English is second language of mine so it's not always easy for me to understand the song for the first time but recently I just sat trying to figure out stories in your songs. And some of them are so soul crushing... so accurate though. I appreciate how you guys are playing with the words. Everything just makes sense.
