Stop being so thirsty
when you know it ain’t no good for you
Oh, Stop being so thirsty
when you know it ain’t no good for you.
That’s the reason I can sing the blues, because I, I played somebody’s fool!
Hey...Listen
You walk right by the dollar
Chasing after the Dime
Hey, You walk right by the dollar
(Nice, crisp dollar)
Chasing after the Dime
But at the end of the day
you’re broke,
disgusted and you just wasted your time!
Hey...
Bridge
Diabetic want sweet food,
blood sugar’s to high.
Chicken wanna hang out with the eagles, Damn- that bird can’t fly.
You want that fool,
because you want to get laid.
But the part of them that you can’t see, it’s going to carry you to your grave!
Chorus
Stop (please, please) being so thirsty
when you know it ain’t no good for you.
That’s the reason I can sing the blues, because I, I played somebody’s fool!
Come on help me sing....
The lyrics to Eric's song "No Good" explore the self-destructive nature of being excessively thirsty or desperate for something that isn't beneficial or healthy. The song begins by urging the listener to stop being so thirsty when they know it's no good for them. This thirstiness is likened to playing someone's fool and ultimately leading to sadness and regret, as symbolized by being able to sing the blues.
In the second verse, the metaphor of walking right by a dollar but chasing after a dime is used to illustrate the folly of pursuing lesser things while neglecting the greater opportunities in front of you. Despite the chase, the outcome is being left broke, disappointed, and having wasted time.
The bridge introduces various examples of misguided desires. The comparison of a diabetic wanting sweet food when it's harmful to their health and a chicken wanting to hang out with eagles even though it's incapable of flying emphasizes the irrationality and consequences of seeking things that are contrary to one's nature or well-being. The lyrics also touch on the desire for superficial connections ("want to get laid"), while highlighting that the hidden aspects of those individuals will eventually lead to one's downfall.
Ultimately, the chorus reinforces the message to stop being so thirsty when it's clearly not good for you. This self-awareness and ability to acknowledge playing someone's fool is linked to the ability to sing the blues, symbolizing a cathartic release of emotions.
