Who
Eric Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I’m far away from where I want to be
I try not to think of where I am
When I feel a pain deep inside of me
I try not to think of where I’ve been
Because who I’ve been is who I am and
Who I am is where I’m rowing
I can’t change where I’ve been
But, I can change where I’m going
Whoa-whoa-whoa-oh
Whoa-whoa-whoa-oh
I’m heading down the path less traveled by
I promise it’s the loneliest road
I wonder what the ending will look like
I’m hoping that this road will lead me home
Because where I’ve been is where I am and
Where I am is where I’m rowing and
I can’t change where I’ve been
But, I can change where I’m going!
I know just where I want be
I know just what I want to see
I don’t know when I’ll take my final breath
I know why I exist
Because who I’ve been is who I am
And who I am is where I’m rowing
I can’t change where I’ve been
But, I can change where I’m rowing
Whoa-whoa-whoa-oh (Row, row, row, row, row)
Row, row, row, row (Row, row, row, row, row)

Row, row, row, row, row (Row, row, row, row, row)
Row, row, row, row, row, row

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Eric's song "Who" convey a message of self-discovery and growth through acknowledging and accepting one's past experiences while actively working towards a better future. The opening lines, "When I'm far away from where I want to be, I try not to think of where I am," suggest that the singer may feel lost or disconnected from their desired path. However, rather than dwelling on their current situation, they choose to focus on moving forward and improving themselves. They acknowledge the pain they have experienced in the past, but do not allow it to define them.

The chorus of the song reinforces this idea of self-improvement and forward momentum: "Who I've been is who I am, and who I am is where I'm rowing. I can't change where I've been, but I can change where I'm going." By recognizing that their past experiences have shaped who they are as a person, the singer is able to take control of their own destiny and work towards a brighter future for themselves.

The closing lines of the song offer a hopeful message, with the singer expressing their understanding of their purpose in life: "I know just where I want to be, I know just what I want to see. I don't know when I'll take my final breath, I know why I exist." Ultimately, "Who" is a song about the power of self-reflection and the importance of personal growth and development.

hello all

Where can we see the entire performance as these were really great performers.

@t.c.hinson : I started noticing that a few years ago..sad but true. It's a TV show..NBC does really care about the contestants!! Puleeeze..everything is on the judges/coaching..that's one of the reasons why Adam Levine left ..is that it was getting "too much" for him..there were too many disagreements going on, behind the scenes..same when Christina Aguilera was a coach..she said she had to wear what "they" wanted, not what she wanted. There was no freedom.
