Tears of Kali
Escape With Romeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and their children look the same
i have seen so many faces
can't remember any name.
Why am I the only person
the only one who could see
all the tears of Kali, raining down on me.
See the words theres an angel
freezing in eternal flames
city lights show you forever.
until you come in remains
Why am I the only person
the only one who could see
all the tears of Kali, raining down on me.
No I'm hoping for a miracle
anyone who could see
that all the tears of Kali
Raining down on me.
The opening lyrics of Escape With Romeo's song Tears of Kali paint a picture of a city full of people, where the singer has seen countless faces but cannot remember any names. This sense of anonymity is emphasized by the repetition of "them people" and "look the same". However, the singer feels a sense of isolation in this crowd, as they are the only one who seems to be aware of the tears of Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction and change, falling down on them.
The second verse introduces the idea of an angel freezing in eternal flames, juxtaposed with the city lights that seem to promise eternal life. The singer questions why they are the only one who can see the tears of Kali, and expresses a sense of hopelessness in hoping for a miracle that will bring awareness to others. The repeated refrain of "all the tears of Kali, raining down on me" emphasizes the singer's feeling of being singled out for this experience.
Overall, Tears of Kali seems to be a meditation on the experience of feeling disconnected from the world around you, despite being surrounded by people. The reference to Kali adds a layer of mythic significance to this feeling of isolation, suggesting that it is tied to wider cycles of destruction and rebirth.
