Would I Lie to You?
Eurythmics Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
I won't be here anymore.
I've packed my bags
I've cleaned the floor.
Watch me walkin'.
Walkin' out the door.
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
Tell you straight, no intervention.
To your face, no deception.
You're the biggest fake.
That much is true.
Had all I can take.
Now I'm leaving you
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
My friends, know what's in store.
I won't be here anymore.
I've packed my bags
I've cleaned the floor.
Watch me walkin'.
Walkin' out the door.
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Believe me, I'll make it make it

@@ronnietoots6797 Lol I hear you about the name. I think its just fine, and I dig your list.
My list? In no specific order, I think you have to put Karen Carpenter on there. She was simply amazing.
As you know, I want Annie Lennox on my list as well. She had the pipes, but also a lot of soul. I truly feel shes underrated in terms of all time great voices.
Another I love is Marie Fredriksson, from the 80s band Roxette. She tragically passed last year, but even while she was on earth, I swear she sounded like an angel. "It must have been love, but its over now" is one of my favorite songs of all time, and its because of her voice.
Aretha is pretty damn good lol, but. Im going to go with Dionne Warwick. It might not be a blasting voice like Aretha Franklin, but its just so smooth and unique. I know its Dionne Warwick singing, without knowing its her.
Whos last? Im going to go with Whitney Houston. Unlike Warwick and Franklin, she had a boomer. To this day, she sang the best version of the Star Spangled Banner ive ever heard. I love that she not only hit the notes, but didnt overdo it with the BS that some do when singing that song. She was one of my first crushes in the 80s, she was incredibly beautiful, and had talent. The whole package.
Thats my list. Probably not perfect, but not bad lol. Its fun talking with you about it. I love talking to people that value history, because it seems so many cant even remember yesterday, let alone 40 years ago.

In my opinion this is one of the best songs the Eurythmics produced. It’s full of raw emotion and pure music. The video boosts it but the song has so much punch it doesn’t need a video. Just love it. Thank you Dave n Annie for all you have given us over the years. Real music came from the 80s and you were a massive part of that ❤❤

Totally agree! Love Annie's voice, Dave's guitar, the horns (oohh), etc. Great song all around!

You are so right.

The way Annie struts that stage is beautiful....Classic

@lindatrani4532
Exactly!!! She is beautiful and talented!!!!

Beyond question her best screen performance. Camera loves her here and she has such presence. Back in the days I used to think she could have success acting, but I guess that's one talent she doesn't have or wasn't interested in. First heard the album is a house in Washington DC in 1986 (on maybe the first cd player I ever encountered), and must have played this track a dozen times in succession. And now come back to watch this video regularly.
NB I do NOT think 'all music was better in my day' (when was 'my day' anyway, the 50s.60s 70s 80s...I dunno) I just like good stuff from whatever time and place, so there's no rose-tinted false nostalgia about this. (I hated that trip to the US).
