Face to Face Lyrics

Try not to care
It's really easy once you learn
That no one is listening
Try not to give
Try not to help
You'll do much better for yourself
I know you well by now
You're that good person
Don't be afraid
Don't be naive
You think you're better than me
Well you're sadly mistaken
I know you well by now
You're that good person
It's all the same inside our minds
Everything is justified
What is wrong and what is right
Everything is justified
In the song "I Know You Well" by Face to Face, the listener is warned about the dangers of caring too much and trying too hard. The lyrics advise against giving help and instead focusing on oneself because, ultimately, no one is listening and nothing else matters. The chorus repeats the line "I know you well by now, you're that good person" which can be seen as either comforting or sarcastic depending on the interpretation. The second verse addresses the listener's beliefs that they are better than the singer, but they are told that they are "sadly mistaken." The final lines of the song suggest that in our own minds, we can justify anything as right or wrong, making it difficult to discern truth from falsehood.
One interpretation of the song is that it is a commentary on the apathy and individualism present in society. The lines "Try not to care" and "Try not to give" suggest a lack of concern for others and an unwillingness to help others, which can result in a society where people don't look out for each other. The repeated line "I know you well by now, you're that good person" could be seen as a societal critique, implying that people may perceive themselves as "good" while simultaneously ignoring others' needs.
Another interpretation is that the song is addressing mental health and the tendency to prioritize one's own well-being over others. The lyrics encourage the listener to focus on themselves rather than worrying about what others think or need. The line "Because nothing else matters" suggests that when dealing with mental health, one's own needs may feel overwhelming and demanding of all attention and energy.
