Catch The Shadows
Falconer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You grasped a pot of gold,
Now it looks like led.
On your path of hunger
The gold lies still ahead.

At the end of the rainbow
Another rainbow starts.
Try to catch the shadows
And run until you fall.
Strain your nerves to follow
The temptations of them all.

The prizes fade with time
As day fades into night.
The state of satisfaction
Is a slowly dying high.

As sun descends in the sky
The hunt is on for the dawn.
Chasing tricks of the day through the night.

The scent of dawn is so sweet

But it is spoiled with each bite.
Losing pace among all of the treats.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Falconer's song "Catch The Shadows" speak to the human pursuit of materialistic success and how it can be fleeting and unfulfilling. The first verse uses the metaphor of a pot of gold that has been acquired, but upon closer inspection, it appears to be made of lead. This represents the idea that things that we believe will bring us happiness and fulfillment may eventually disappoint us. The following lines encourage the listener to keep pushing forward despite this disappointment, encouraging them to keep striving towards their goals.

The chorus of the song talks about catching the shadows, which refers to our constant pursuit of something that is always changing and just out of our reach. This idea is further explored in the second verse, where the lyrics describe how even the most satisfying moments in life are temporary, and as night fades into day, our "hunt" for happiness must begin anew. The final verse is a reflection on this cycle of desire and disappointment, comparing it to a craving for sweets that eventually becomes unsatisfying and leaves us feeling unfulfilled.

Amazing voice!

Cyberote

This was the first song I heard from Falconer and I still love it!

Mike Bell

I love this song to death but the last line of the prechorus always makes me think of Tobias Funke singing "Somewhere over the rainbow... there's another rainbow"

Slamazzar

And I'm pretty sure it's an eyewink tribute to Hammerfall. Their song with this exact title — “At the end of the rainbow" — contains some very similar "oh oh oh" chanting.

Long live power metal happily ever after!

Carson

Northwind is their best album.
