Oh What A Price
Fats Domino Lyrics

For loving you, you
I bought a home, a diamond ring
I had to give up everything
Oh what a price I had to pay
For loving you, you
I even stopped staying out all night
Oh what a price I had to pay
For loving you, you
I stopped my rambling, I even stopped gambling
I even stopped staying out all night
Oh what a price I had to pay
For loving you, you
You heard my story, I'll sing my song
So goodbye baby I'm gone now
Oh what a price I had to pay
For loving you, you
Fats Domino's "Oh What a Price" is a song about the price one has to pay for loving someone. The main theme of the song is the sacrifices that a person has to make in a relationship. The lyrics describe the sacrifices the singer has made for their loved one, which includes giving up everything they had for the sake of the relationship.
The first verse talks about the material things that the singer has given up for the person they love. The singer mentions buying a home and a diamond ring - two things that could have been investments for their future. However, instead of securing their future, they gave everything up for the sake of the relationship. The singer seems to have done this willingly, as they say "For loving you, you."
The second verse talks about the personal sacrifices that the singer has made. They tried hard to do what's right by their loved one, even giving up their habits of staying out all night and gambling. These are habits that are hard to break, but the singer willingly made those sacrifices "for loving you, you."
In the last verse, the singer accepts the price they have paid but also implies that perhaps the sacrifices they made weren't reciprocated. The line "you heard my story, I'll sing my song, so goodbye baby I'm gone now" suggests that the relationship has come to an end, possibly because the singer felt that they were the only one making sacrifices.
Overall, "Oh What a Price" is a poignant and emotional song that highlights the sacrifices we often make for the people we love. The singer's willingness to give up everything for the sake of love is a universal concept that many people can relate to.

So sad that the true gentleman of his fans and my Favorite Rock Legend is now gone. Fats was so appreciative of his fans. I had the honor of seeing him live three times over the years. Fats would play his usual set and then he would play whatever the audience asked for. I loved this man. R.I.P. my dear Fat Man.😪😪

I like the way he does not rush the tempo on the piano. His timing is just right. And the small amount of natural vibrato in his voice adds more soul to the entire song. He's the man! I was almost 10 when this song came out. I remember his records playing on my Grandpas Juke Box in his store which served hamburgers, French fries, cokes and Maple Leaf Ice Cream. That was in the 1950's.
