The Thread Of The Thing
Fay Wolf Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah oh

And the who' sit
and the what' s it
and the stories of kings
and the needle
and the thread of the thing
Aand the ladder
at the scene
and the cutting off at the knees
in a little while i see

That I love the way you came on
I love the way you came on
to me
to me
ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah oh

And the where is
and the there is
and the start of the fling
but the riot
breaks the thread of thing

And the lenses
ain't clean
we'll need another tv screen
in a little while i see

But i love the way you came on
I love the way you came on
I love the way you came on
I love the way you came on
to me
to me
to me
to me
ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah oh

It weighs out, it weighs out
It weighs out, it weighs out...

and you know I love you
I love you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Fay Wolf's song, The Thread Of The Thing, evoke a sense of confusion and chaos, as the singer lists off various objects and concepts such as "the who' sit" and "the ladder at the scene." It is unclear what exactly these things represent, but they seem to contribute to a larger narrative that takes shape over the course of the song. The thread of the thing refers to a connection or a thread that ties everything together. It is unclear what this thread represents or what it connects, but its importance is underscored by the repeated mentions throughout the song.

The singer then goes on to describe a "start of the fling" that is interrupted by a "riot" that "breaks the thread of thing." It seems that the singer is describing a relationship that is interrupted by external forces. Despite this chaos, however, the singer expresses love for the way the other person "came on" to them. There is a sense of desperation and urgency to the way the singer repeats this phrase, as if it is the one thing that remains constant in an ever-changing world.

You can say what you want, out of all series on TV TVD has one of the best soundtracks. I found so much amazing music even though I'm not watching it so often anymore.

this song started playing while my aunt dropped me home a couple weeks ago, and I haven't been able to stop listening to it since then. life has been difficult and stagnant for awhile, but this song perfectly encapsulates that lingering feeling of wanting- knowing there's more to it all

For the people who always say, "i didn't need TVD or anything to bring me here," then I have a word for you: It doesn't matter how you or the others got here. The important part is that they got here in the end.
