The band was among the first acts of a renewed wave of shoegazing music, harkening back to the late-1980s and early 1990s heyday of that genre. Although My Bloody Valentine is the most well-known of the shoegazers, Film School tends to hew more closely to the less stridently noisy bands from the original scene--bands such as Slowdive and Blind Mr. Jones. When Film School ups the tempo, their cascading guitars and background harmonies of "ooh" and "aah"--washed-out spins on classic mid-60s pop--they can also sound like Ride, another prominent band in the original shoegazing scene.
Film School today are now based in Los Angeles. Current members are: Greg Bertens, Dave Dupuis, Lorelei Plotczyk, Jason Ruck, James Smith . Previous members have included Nyles Lannon, Justin LaBo, Donny Newenhouse.

Film School Lyrics

Just this time
Saw you staring at the light
Just let go
And don′t rush out of the room
She says it changes the mood
Don't rush out of the room
Crushin
Sink in to something
I'm falling
Crushin
Sink in to something
I′m falling
Hold my hand this time
Just this time
I′ll believe in what we'll find
Just you and I
She says don′t tell me the truth
She says it spoils the mood
He says don't tell me the truth
He says it spoils the mood
Crushin
Sink in to something
I′m falling
Crushin
Sink in to something
I'm falling
Defeating
Believing in something
I′m falling
Defeating
Believing in something
I'm falling
Crushin
Sink in to something
I'm falling
Crushin
Sink in to something
I′m falling
Defeating
Believing in something
I′m falling
Defeating
Believing in something
I'm falling
The lyrics in Film School's song Crushin' are open to interpretation, as most songs are, but they seem to be about the uncertainty and vulnerability that can accompany falling in love. The first verse seems to suggest that the singer and their partner are exploring something new and unfamiliar, and that they're not sure what they'll find. The second half of the verse suggests that the partner is hesitant to leave the moment and risk changing the mood by rushing out of the room.
The chorus repeats the word "Crushin" and uses the metaphor of sinking into something, possibly representing the idea of falling deeply in love. The second verse repeats the idea of not wanting to spoil the moment with the truth, adding to the theme of uncertainty and the idea that the singer is holding onto something fragile. The repetition of "I'm falling" in the chorus reinforces this theme of surrendering to something new and scary.
Overall, the lyrics of Crushin' seem to be about the fear and excitement of falling in love, and the importance of staying in the moment and not rushing forward or revealing too much too soon.

Had the good fortune to see this band live when they supported British Sea Power.
Absolutely love Film School's music.
The most criminally underapreciated band on the planet.

Same here - back in 2008 I think it was. Film School were my first shoegaze live experience, and the band seemed quite appreciative when I said they reminded me of Slowdive.
Crushin is a stunning track.

So bloody underrated. Chanced upon it while listening to a random playlist on Spotify. Got hooked and kept it on repeat. This should have gone mainstream. Hope some TV series or movie picks it up for a sequence.

I'm a big film schooL fan, I would say this song is really a perfect song. It's pristine. Smoothe. with an E. For what it's worth, I played this track over and over to a day old orphan baby rabbit that was dragged in the house and played with like a toy by a neighbors dog. The nest was all dead, and she was the only survivor, her mom gave up on her. I played it to her initially, and a few times after as I nursed her with special milk, and stimulated bowel movements and such. After a week, she lived, and I gave her to an animal agency in Ohio. She was "crushin" I felt like it was the best song to play for her as I rubbed her little forehead, and put the dropper to her bunny lips.
