The band was among the first acts of a renewed wave of shoegazing music, harkening back to the late-1980s and early 1990s heyday of that genre. Although My Bloody Valentine is the most well-known of the shoegazers, Film School tends to hew more closely to the less stridently noisy bands from the original scene--bands such as Slowdive and Blind Mr. Jones. When Film School ups the tempo, their cascading guitars and background harmonies of "ooh" and "aah"--washed-out spins on classic mid-60s pop--they can also sound like Ride, another prominent band in the original shoegazing scene.
Film School today are now based in Los Angeles. Current members are: Greg Bertens, Dave Dupuis, Lorelei Plotczyk, Jason Ruck, James Smith . Previous members have included Nyles Lannon, Justin LaBo, Donny Newenhouse.

Will I make out like you?
If we hideout, if we hide here too
Will it take us back to me and you?
Days and nights inside this room
Oh, never ending thoughts of you
Why can't I get you out of view?
I follow you now, I follow you
Make it all up, take it all down
If it serves me, I do
We can hideout, we can hide here too
It won't take us back to me and you
Days and nights inside your room
Oh, never ending thoughts of you
Time can make it seem alright
Why can't I get you out of view?
I follow you now, I follow you
Oh, never ending thoughts of you
Time can make it seem alright
Why can't I get you out of view?
I follow you now, I follow you
Days and nights inside
Days and nights inside
Days and nights inside
Oh, never ending thoughts of you
Time can make it seem alright
Why can't I get you out of view?
I follow you now, I follow you
The song "Dear Me" by Film School is about longing for someone that is no longer present in one's life and looking for a way to get back to a familiar time. The opening lines suggest that the singer is searching for an answer - wondering if they can make it back to where they once were, even if the other person is not there. The repetition of "if I hold out" and "if we hideout" reveal a sense of desperation and a desire to escape reality.
The chorus, repeated multiple times throughout the song, talks about the constant thoughts of the person they miss and how time hasn't helped in getting them out of their mind. The line "I follow you now, I follow you" cements the idea that the singer is still fixated on this past relationship and cannot let it go.
The second verse includes the line "make it all up, take it all down, if it serves me, I do." This line suggests that the singer is willing to do whatever it takes to rediscover the feeling they once had with this person, even if it means a bit of delusion on their part. By the end of the song, we learn that they're still inside, still thinking about this person, and still unable to move on.
Overall, "Dear Me" is a poignant song about the struggle to let go of a relationship and accept its ending. The lyrics paint a vivid image of someone holding onto the past and struggling to find a way to move forward.
