1) Fireworks is a pop … Read Full Bio ↴There is more than one artist with this name:
1) Fireworks is a pop punk band from Detroit, Michigan consisting of David Mackinder, Tymm Rengers, Chris Mojan, Kyle O'Neil, and Brett Jones. They are a group of individuals creating a sound with enough pop quality to keep your little sister's attention, and enough edge to rid them of "guilty pleasure" status. Hailing from stereotypically suburban metro Detroit, Fireworks is comprised of five electric personalities with endless influences. Together they create a unique blend of "infectious, well-written punk with an undeniable sense of melody." They are currently signed to Triple Crown Records and Run For Cover Records.

2) Fireworks was an early '90s garage rock band from Dallas, Texas, that consisted of: Darin Lin Wood (Blacktop, Black Snakes, Red Devils, Jackknife, '68 Comeback and Cat Fur), James Arthur (Necessary Evils, AAAA New Memphis Legs, A Feast of Snakes, Viva L'american Death Ray Music, CC Riders and Golden Boys) and Janet Walker (Blacktop and Cat Fur).
3) Fireworks is a christian poprock band from the 70's/80's. Fireworks started as a vocal trio with Marty McCall, Gary Pigg and Gwen Moore singing backup vocals on songs by B.J. Thomas and Amy Grant. In 1977 they released their debut on Myrrh Records with a pop/adult contemporary sound, but switched to a more rock-infused sound when they changed record labels to MCA. Marty McCall went on to be a part of the popular vocal group First Call. Their pre-MCA second album, Shatter The Darkness, is considered by some to be their high musical watermark.
4) The Fireworks are an indiepop band based in London/Brighton UK. Started in 2011 by Matthew Rimell (Big Pink Cake), the lineup now includes Emma Hall (ex-Pocketbooks), Isabel Albiol (ex-Things in Herds) and Shaun Charman (ex-The Popguns/The Wedding Present). A first EP was released on Shelflife in early 2013 with the previous drummer Carys, with another EP expected later in the year. FireworksGoPop.
When We Stand On Each Other We Block Out the Sun
Fireworks Lyrics

It's comforting to know not much has changed
From the fields we used to roam to sneak into those two abandoned homes
Everyone's a writer I just have a general block...
There's signs in every yard
But a piece of plastic doesn't tend to make my mind
Rather take bad advice from my best friends
And guide a sinking ship to the bottom with them
I'll go to the bottom with you
Thinking back on thinking forward
I always thought I'd be further than I ever am
Without this bad knee I wouldn't have a good one
These vices don't hold me down
They fucking carry me
Sometimes I can't believe the things I get myself into
Because laying low has never made much sense to me
So keep on spinning and I'll stay behind
My closing speech...
Fuck your world, I'll take mine
(Sincerely stolen from a bathroom wall)
In Fireworks' song "When We Stand On Each Other We Block Out the Sun," the singer reflects on their journey home after two years away. They find comfort in the fact that not much has changed, but memories of their past adventures still linger. The singer also acknowledges their struggle to find inspiration in a world inundated with superficial signs and distractions. Despite this, they rely on the advice of their best friends, even if it leads them down destructive paths. The singer embraces their flaws and vices, recognizing that they propel them forward rather than hold them back. In the end, the singer rejects societal norms and declares their determination to create their own world.
One interesting aspect of this song is the use of metaphorical language to describe the singer's journey. The title itself suggests that the singer is aware of the self-inflicted obstacles that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Additionally, the singer refers to their vices as things that carry them instead of weighing them down, portraying their flaws in a positive light.
Another notable feature of this song is its blend of punk and emo influences. The fast-paced instrumentation and aggressive vocals are reminiscent of punk rock, while the introspective and emotional lyrics draw from emo. This unique blend creates a powerful and cathartic listening experience.
It's also worth noting that "When We Stand On Each Other We Block Out the Sun" is part of Fireworks' concept album "Oh, Common Life," which explores the struggles of young adulthood. This song, in particular, touches on themes of self-discovery, camaraderie, and individuality, all of which are central to the album's overarching narrative.
Chords (as played in the acoustic version):

It's been two years since I've taken this way home
It's been a couple of years since I walked down this path
It's comforting to know not much has changed

Everyone's a writer I just have a general block...
Everyone seems to be able to write except for me, I'm struggling with writer's block
There's signs in every yard

However, a piece of plastic is not enough to grab my attention
I still take bad advice from my best friends
I still listen to my closest friends even if they give me bad advice
Rather take bad advice from my best friends
I would rather take bad advice from my loved ones
And guide a sinking ship to the bottom with them
I'm willing to sink together with them while still following their advice
I'll go to the bottom with you
I'm willing to go down with you and face the consequences together if things go wrong
Thinking back on thinking forward
Reflecting on past thoughts and considerations for the future
I always thought I'd be further than I ever am
I imagined myself achieving more than I actually have right now
Without this bad knee I wouldn't have a good one
If I didn't have this weakness, I wouldn't be as strong as I am
These vices don't hold me down
My vices don't hinder me from living my life
They fucking carry me
They actually empower me instead of weighing me down
Sometimes I can't believe the things I get myself into
There are moments when I'm surprised by my own actions
Because laying low has never made much sense to me
I don't understand why being unobtrusive is considered the better option
So keep on spinning and I'll stay behind
You keep going ahead without me, I'll just stay behind
My closing speech...
My parting words before leaving
Fuck your world, I'll take mine
I don't care about your world, I'll create my own

I just poured my heart out to my best friend in all the universe, and he sent me this song. We have our good times, and our... irritating ones. Never bad though... We're too close for that, and I love him. Max! If you're reading this you over-sized bastard! I fuckin' love you dude! G'night dude... Goodnight youtube listeners. And goodnight to you, good reader. Much love to all. And I'm not a particularly "god-fearing" person, but I thank whatever gods there may or may not be for Max.
