Fishbone first assembled with John Norwood Fisher (bass), his brother Philip "Fish" Fisher (drums), Angelo Moore (vocals, saxophones and theremin), Kendall Jones (guitar), "Dirty" Walter A. Kibby II (vocals, trumpet), and Christopher Dowd (keyboards, trombone, vocals). They achieved their greatest success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, after which they went through many personnel changes. From 2003 to 2010, John Norwood Fisher and Angelo Moore were the last remaining original members of the band. In the 2010s, all the other original members except Kendall Jones rejoined the band for various reunions and anniversary activities.

Let's have some fun
You only live once
And when you're dead, you're dust
Let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
Don't matter if you're young or old, yeah
Good time, good time, good time
Don't sit there moaning
Talking all that trash
If you wanna spend money
You gotta go out and have some cash
Let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
Don't matter if you're young or if you're old, yeah
Let the good times roll
Hey, Mr. Landlord
You better lock up all your doors
(scat)
Let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
No matter if you're young or old
Let the good times roll
Hey, everybody
Fishbone's in town
With a pocket full of money
???
Don't think nobody's
Gonna lay usĀ ???
???
(scat)
Let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
Don't matter if you're young or old
Let the good times roll
Don't matter where
???
(scat)
Fishbone's song Let the Good Times Roll is a vivid celebration of living life to the fullest. The first stanza sets the tone for the song, inviting everybody to have some fun and reminding them that life is short and should be lived to the fullest. The energetic chorus emphasizes the importance of enjoying life, regardless of age or circumstances. The lyrics also carry a sense of rebellion against societal norms, urging people to stop complaining and instead go out and make the most of their lives.
The second stanza directly addresses the issue of money and how it can affect one's ability to have a good time. Fishbone suggests that if you want to have fun, you need to be willing to spend money, and emphasizes the importance of having cash on hand. The third stanza takes a playful turn, with Fishbone warning Mr. Landlord to lock his doors because they are ready to party. The last stanza is a celebratory tribute to Fishbone themselves, with the band confidently proclaiming that they have the money and freedom to enjoy life as they please.
Overall, Let the Good Times Roll is a powerful anthem that encourages listeners to seize the day and make the most of their lives. Its infectious energy and memorable lyrics have made it a beloved classic among fans of funk, ska, and rock music.
