Brighter Side of Grey
Five Finger Death Punch Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm writing this in case I'm gone tomorrow
I'm writing this in case I've moved along
There's something that I hope you'll remember
That life is not a game, it's a song

So take the best parts of me
Locked away without the keys
And know that I'm forever by your side

When the lights go down
Know that I am never far away
When the sun burns out
I'll be waiting on the brighter side of grey

If you're reading this, I know you're feeling sorrow
If you're hearing this, I know you're probably scared
Just know that all the things you want are borrowed
And all you get to keep is all you've shared

So wipe away the tears for me
Know that we've made history
Remember no one ever really dies

When the lights go down
Know that I am never far away
When the sun burns out
I'll be waiting on the brighter side of grey

When the lights go down
Know that I am never far away

When the sun burns out
I'll be waiting on the brighter side of grey

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Brighter Side of Grey by Five Finger Death Punch are about leaving a message for loved ones in case the singer is no longer around. The first verse sets the scene for the message, explaining that life isn't a game but a song, and that the best parts of the singer will always be with those they leave behind. In the second verse, the singer addresses their audience, acknowledging their feelings of sorrow and fear, and reassuring them that the things that matter in life are the things we share with others.

The chorus, which repeats twice, is the message that the singer wants to leave with their loved ones. The first half tells the listener that even after death, the singer will never be far away. The second half of the chorus paints a bittersweet picture of waiting on the brighter side of grey when the sun burns out. This implies that while death may be dark and sad, there is still hope and light to be found after it, even if it is just in memory.

Overall, the song's lyrics are a moving testament to the power of shared experience and love, and the importance of holding onto those things even after someone is gone.

As someone whom has suffered much loss and pain of loved one's whom have come and gone in my lifetime, let me offer some sympathy first and foremost.
Now, for some Wisdom and advice, from an old soul to you kiddo.
Don't EVER let death darken or torment your life, don't let your mourning turn to misery. It is an integral part of LIFE. everything eventually dies. Even STARS someday do. Here is the lesson for you though: let it ENRICH YOUR OWN! this may not make sense now, or perhaps even later, but someday I promise you as your mourning, you'll get it. You'll understand this lesson. I cannot nor will not offer you the solution to pain. I offer only guidance, save that you shouldn't let those whom touch your heart and life do anything but make you enjoy every bit of sunlight and rainfall.

Because, there are two paths you can follow: A simple choice of which do you take?
A life on a path that is straight, clear and easy?
Or a life, full of twists and turns, strewn with fog and difficult?
Look back to this question, as you progress in life. And I guarantee, if you do... If you find the gift in this lesson? You'll be the better and stronger and happier for it.
Live on, grow and grow up, and never shun either the dark days or the light days.

Sincerely, an old scarred soul.

P.S. Never be afraid or ashamed to laugh and smile with life. Just don't forget to cry some, too...

You've done it this time.
I swear theyve literally forced their fist into my chest and pulled my heart out , this has hit me so hard . " when the lights go down , know that I'm never far away. When the sun burns out I'll be waiting on the brighter side of grey".

Wow... loving this album, this song got to me worse than coming down and that hit me hard too.

Being someone who suffers with mental health , this song has struck a chord with me.

I hope this isn't a warning song like Chester made when he was trying to tell us through song about how he was suffering emotionally. Ivan idk if you will ever see this but just know we all love you man. We dont want another Chester scenario. Your music has helped so many of us and your commitment to our soldiers is awesome.
